Moa Imperial Stout is a very strong, upfront and rich beer hopped to over 100 IBUs. Aged with French oak, this beer not only displays coffee, mocha and smoked cedar characters but also some sweet and savoury notes unique to Moa Imperial Stout. A great beer to cellar and age.

Tasting Notes
Moa Imperial Stout is a very strong, bold upfront and rich offering of a famous beer style. Aged with French Oak, this beer not only displays coffee and mocha charters but also some sweet and spicy notes. A tannin like finish and an oak induced mellow bitterness makes it a serious stout. Moa Imperial Stout is best served just below room temperature in a tulip glass.

UPDATED: JUN 12, 2015 Outstanding! Looks like motor oil with a very small tan brown head. Smells like a fruit salad. Chocolate up front, and then more chocolate with coffee in the aftertaste. Very malty, only slightly bitter with very fruity hop flavour. Cherries, plums, peaches, basically a fruit salad of hops. Warm going down, and very drinkable for such a strong beer. The oak tannins are slight giving it a slight wine taste. At $6.99 NZ for a 500ml bottle at 10.2% alcohol this is a steal!

Totalmente negra, espuma bege, espessa, duradoura. Aroma licoroso, mais café, menos chocolate, alcoólica. Paladar adocicao médio, amargor médio. Aftertaste de café, bem dosada no álcool. Corpo médio, carbonação flat.

A beer to eat rather than drink. Pours scary. Taste/mouthfeel/palate overwhelms, dominates, subdues, almost. Not for those too protective of their tastebuds. Richer even than you expect an imperial stout to be.

UPDATED: JUL 31, 2016 3rd try and it is improving. It still tries to do too much, and it became a chore to finish. I really enjoyed an 8 Wired iStout last week, so gave this a lash based on that experience, but wasn’t close. Coffee, smoke, caramel, liquorice and spice all fought like a bus full of sugar-fuelled 7 year olds, rather than entertained

Pours black with slight tan head. Rich aroma with a smooth and sweet oaky flavor. Drinks like a fine wine. My favorite stout in NZ

Bottle 375ml. Pours very dark brown with low beige head. No lacing. Aroma is of wine, coffee, roasted malt, molasses. Taste is of oak, alcohol, roasted malt, ashes, coffee, some vanilla, wine. Palate: Full bodied. Soft carbonation. Dry finish (oak). Almost harsh. Overall: Pretty good. Lots of oak.

Bottle (375 ml). From kbudd19, thanks! Split 2-ways.

Appearance: Very dark reddish brown with a very small tan head and little lacing.

Aroma: Roasted malt, perfume notes, Pinot noir, grapes and ashy notes.

Taste: Roasted malt, lots of oak, ashy presence, tobacco notes, pinot noir and light bitterness.

Palate: Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Oaky, tannic. Super dry. Ashy and roasty finish.

Overall: The oak has taken so much place in this one! Really dry. Interesting Pinot noir features. Tasty.

Although the IBU on this one is over 100, it's very smooth and the french oak brings out a lovely smokey, charred vanilla to the overall mochas that push through. Yummy, but only one in a session!
