COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Moa Imperial Stout is a very strong, upfront and rich beer hopped to over 100 IBUs. Aged with French oak, this beer not only displays coffee, mocha and smoked cedar characters but also some sweet and savoury notes unique to Moa Imperial Stout. A great beer to cellar and age.

Tasting Notes
Moa Imperial Stout is a very strong, bold upfront and rich offering of a famous beer style. Aged with French Oak, this beer not only displays coffee and mocha charters but also some sweet and spicy notes. A tannin like finish and an oak induced mellow bitterness makes it a serious stout. Moa Imperial Stout is best served just below room temperature in a tulip glass.

Pours black black black with a thick brown head. Quite neutral on the nose, perhaps a bit of liquorice; as it warms more of an alcohol waft floats by. In the mouth the salty liquorice comes through a bit more, with some rough-edged coffee notes, but still very mild. Smooth and very drinkable; the 10% alcohol warmth flows nicely around the mouth and down the throat as the bitterness fades. Nice; not a "rock star" Imperial Stout, perhaps even too smooth for a standard stout, but nice.

500mL bottle from Camperdown Cellars Pitch black body, holds dense tan head. Great nose to it - roast malts, charcoal, black coffee, fragrant & spicy hops, vinous red fruits, raisins, vanilla & toast. Body is slick, sticky, inky, with a drying roast, tannic acrid note. Not overly rich but intense - charred wood, burnt toast, coffee grinds, vanilla, raisins, clove, licorice, blackberry & currants. Lingering finish, touch of booze warming, very bitter, drying acrid note hangs around. Seriously good; good ageing prospect.

Bottle. Pours a black color with a small off-white head. Has a roasted malty licorice chocolate aroma. Roasted malty licorice chocolate oaky flavor. Has a roasted malty chocolate licorice finish with oaky hints.

Bottle, pours dark brown with almost no head. Aromas of caramel, sweet. Taste is sweet, lots of roasted notes, with marked bitterness, somewhat woody aftertaste. Full bodied, but lacks complexity which I expect from imperial stout.

Moa stout is a taste treat, woody, bitter and sweet, dark and really strong. I ve only ever bought cheap Imperial Stouts and this is one of the best. (Most are too sweet and malty and not bitter enough)

A serious and seriously good imperial stout. Rich, vinous, oaky, smokey, boozy (two more adjectives and youd have Seven Bad Dwarfs). Appearance: as dense and unfathomable as my youngest son when I ask him what he did at school today ("I dont know! Stop asking me questions!) Loose scud of beige suds. Lovely, rich, complex aroma. Smells like a library, specifically one with lots of aged timber in which someone in a tweed jacket is smoking a pipe, drinking shiraz and eating whipped cream and blackberries. This makes me want to be him. Luscious creamy mouthfeel. Sweet, woody and bitter on the tongue. Double-shot espresso, Bourneville chocolate, rum port. Definitely at the sweeter end of the scale. Lord, theres a lot going on here. (500ml bottle from Leura Cellars, which is arguably too much for one person with no good excuse to be drinking on a Thursday)

500 ml bottle from shop in Queenstown. Pours black with nice tan head. Slightly thick. Definitely has nice underly stout with toasted malt, coffee, and some bitterness. Barrel aging is well done and compliments stout with subtle sweetness. Well done. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

500ml bottle BB 2/5/2018 Sweet malty fruity aroma. Poured black with strange sudsy dishwashing liquid head. Well, the taste is all about the ABV - negligible bitterness is followed by an oaky finish and a major alcoholic kick. Reminded me of drinking a glass of wine more that beer. Maybe I have just drunk too much Guinness in my life but as a stout, this this was just well, not.... On the plus side, probably a good dessert or cheese board beer. (Tombutlin - I concur with your diagnosis on this one mate).
