Such a mild little "pop" of the cork, I was surprised to see a few bubbles about to come out of the bottle. Brown color with a lovely hue of purple on the edges when held to the light. Tall, near rocky beige head. Aromas heavy with heavily caramelized malt. Hints of molasses, grass and roasted malt. Has some heft in the body, but that is quickly lost with very lively carbonation. Actually quite dry in flavor with only hints of pale malt and light fruit. Bits of herbal hops in the middle. LIght roasted malt in the finish along with some black malt acidity. A bit of roasted malt in the linger. thirdeye11 (6160) - Dallas, Texas, USA - APR 17, 2010
(12.7oz bottle thanks to ericandersnavy) clear orange-brown with lasting bubbles. Nose of sweet dark brown sugar, caramel and dark fruit. Taste of brown sugar, some fruits, with a creamy but watery body. Mora2000 (6158) - McKinney, Texas, USA - MAY 17, 2010
Thanks to ericandersnavy for sharing this beer. This is my first beer from the great country of New Zealand.
The beer pours an orange-brown color with a white head. The aroma is pretty basic with toffee malt. The flavor is more of the same, lots of toffee. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Not bad, but nothing specials. altonbrownd (5898) - Chevy Chase, Maryland, USA - SEP 24, 2015
Bottle from Barmy Wines. Nice dark brown body with huge tan head. Nose is sweet, caramel, malts. Taste is dark chocolate, malts, coffee, toffee. Nice and subtle. With bitter finish. notalush (5867) - Denver, Colorado, USA - DEC 14, 2008
Pours a dark ruby - the aroma is doughy, nutty, with a slight earthy must, fruitiness and vegetal character - full but soft carbonation in the mouth - almost like a brown ale in flavor, with strong nutty flavor, moderate herbal bitterness - a little chalky and dry on the back end - slight hints of cocoa and bread at the end as well - earthy - an interesting and underrated beer.

375ml bottle. Cola colour with a large thick tan foam blanket. Looks like a glas of cola and is levely and well carbonated. Aromas of roasted coffee beans and chocolate dominate with burnt toffee and nalt flavours folowing. Smooth finish and light in the mouth. skortila (5801) - Baarn, NETHERLANDS - MAR 2, 2014
On tap @ Moa, Blenheim. New Zealand holiday 2011-12. Old notes. The aroma is roasty, bit fruity. Cloudy, orange-brown coloured with an off-white head. The taste is light bitter, bit dusty, roasted, bit citric. Cybercat (5743) - Georgia, USA - JUL 29, 2010
Pours a slightly hazy warm brown with a decent, if not persistent, pale tan head. Aroma is malty and just slightly nutty, not strong but still inviting. Flavor is malty with nutty and hoppy hints - not wonderful, but enjoyable nevertheless. Texture is smooth and fizzy, leaving a bit of a tingle behind, along with a hint of hops. jkwood04 (5448) - Connecticut, USA - MAR 20, 2013
12.7oz bottle in a lager glass. Pours deep brown with a fluffy, cream-colored head. Aroma of caramel and nutty malts, a little bread and dough, and some floral hops. Flavor the same with a nice balance. Average texture. A pretty good beer for the style. beerguy101 (5360) - Newark, California, USA - SEP 2, 2007
This American Dark Lager pours a deep brown color from a 33cl. bottle. Medium to large sized beige foamy head. Good retention and nice lacing. Aroma is dark malt, caramel and slightly sweet. Medium bodied dark beer. The malts are slightly roasty, touch of chocolate and dark fruit. The hops are earthy and slightly spicy. This beer reminds me a little of some of the dark beers I drank way back in the old days. A little darker malts, slightly more flavor and body than the lighter stuff. Nice balance. Good carbonation. Nothing really outstanding here, but it is a very nice drinkable beer. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
