Rich dark color. Coffee and chocolate nose. Very elegant on the pallet, not a heavy tasting or saturated dark.

Bottle from Plonk, Canberra. Very tasty, malt-driven lager. Aromas of caramel, grain, and chocolate. Taste is sweet, with light bitterness, and good length. Palate is silky, and medium bodied. Black, with a frothy head. astrofrk (341) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - SEP 7, 2009
Brown. Lasting, foamy head. Aroma: Roasted malt, caramel, candy. Flavor: Pretty much the same with earthy hops showing up just before swallowing. Mild, bitter finish. There is almost a coffee flavor in this finish, I toast the complexity of this beer.
Personally, I think this beer deserves a higher rating than many give. I guess it’s all a matter of personal taste and that is what this website is about. kiwianer (3428) - Otorohanga, NEW ZEALAND - NOV 15, 2013
The head is good, the body black. It smells malty, darkmalty, aromatic. Taste is darkmalty, aromatic, full taste, roasty, very nice. 3.8 jimhilt (2635) - Bow, New Hampshire, USA - SEP 10, 2010
Pours a two finger off-white head that fades slowly to a ring leaving some lace. Medium carbonation and medium bodied. Opaque brown color. Nose is slight malt. Flavor is caramel and baked molasses. Smooth, surprisingly good being in a green bottle. $4.25 for a 375ml bottle from Colonial Spirits, Acton, MA.

The feel is thin with fizzy carbonation; finishes with a roasted bitterness. An easy drinking lager, with a light feel yet some nice flavor. Quevillon (3196) - Boisbriand, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 9, 2012
375 ml bottle purchased at the Westmere Beverage Center (Albany, New York) on September 18, 2012. Very dark brown, medium head. Aroma of dry barley, cracked wheat, very fragrant. The taste is somewhat similar, but more raw, hints of smoked herbs, barley bitter. Like the other Moa, it is very good, I’d like it to have more Kiwi beer! 3fourths (9367) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - MAY 4, 2013
UPDATED: MAY 5, 2013 bottle-conditioned 33cl 2013 batch. hazed dark brown body with a fine-bubbled tan head with some retention and lacing. malty aroma with a lot of toasted grains and black patent char and dry licorice notes, but also a subtle gaminess (wet dog hair, animal scat / soil). medium-light body, medium sweetness, mild bitterness. very much in the vein of Czech tmavy: lots of chewy dark caramel malt and charred black malt but absent the roast of German-style schwarzbier. crunchy, toasty and lightly husky malt flavor. good calcium / mineral character plays nicely with Munich-like cookie batter, caramel, vanilla and nut character. rich, chewy, round, enjoyable malt savoriness. thankfully the early gaminess goes away after some time, or I get used to it enough that it’s not an issue. quite good, but for the price I will buy Session Black in bulk and be happy enough. oh6gdx (26485) - Vasa, FINLAND - MAY 12, 2013

Deep copper colour, small off-white creamy head. Aroma is floral, some grassy and herbal notes along with some toasted malts. Flavour is herbal, grassy, mild ashes, toffee and some mild floral notes. Surprisingly tasty, but not your typical dunkel...
Pours dark brown with a huge, thick, dark tan head.
Chocolate, raspberry aroma.
Chocolate, roast coffee, dark fruit/berry flavours.
Increasing roastiness to an almost smoky finish.
Light, but very good.
