Black House is an oatmeal coffee stout bursting with coffee aroma and flavor. Modern Times is one of the only breweries in the world to roast our own coffee, which allows us to be exceptionally picky about which coffees we use and how we roast them. The result is an abundantly flavorful beer that’s incredibly complex and aromatic, with loads of roast character and a chocolate-covered espresso bean finish.

Pint can in Pasco, WA. Was kind of disappointed with the mouthfeel. Decent bitterness. I saw later that this is an oatmeal stout so that might be the reason for the lightness on the tongue. By the color and mouthfeel I would have guessed this to be a brown ale. This isnít a bad beer but I guess I prefer chewier coffee stouts with more residual sugars.
Enough coffee in this beer to smell it in your pee! BREWMUSKCLES (2671) - New Jersey, USA - JUN 16, 2017
perfectly moderate stout which as one would learn is not an easy task. this brew is moderate in body slick and sweet with no alcohol and a long coffee bitter finish. the burp is hop suds vibrant and quite beery. a nice trick the brewís flavor is coffee with cream and two sugars and easy malt but canít offend even this purist. just a charming brew and if this is modern times well i guess these days arenít all bad! reebtogi (6235) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - JUN 6, 2017
Pint on tap at Beer Revolution in Edmonton (Modern Times Tap Takeover) pours black in color with a finger and a half of off-white head that leaves some spotted lacing on the glass. Aroma is roasted grains and chocolate with hints of coffee. Taste is a chocolate malty sweetness with a roasted grain and coffee bitterness. Overall, a nicely balanced brew that is tasty, but not the best in its class. the_beergery (62) - - JUN 1, 2017
1 pint can: Pours a deep brownish-black (it is actually an almost clear deep brown at the bottom of the glass) with a good head of thick tan froth. Aromas are mainly coffee and roasted malts. Taste is a bit more complex, with rich coffee notes, milky chocolates, and roasted malts. Coffee is of course the most prominent, with 2 different blends added to the mix, but not overwhelming, allowing the other flavours to shine through as well in a balanced way. There is also a nice balance between the sweetness and the bitterness all the way to the finish, which is very dry. Carbonation is average, giving it a creamy, full mouthfeel when the fizz is still there, but once the brew warms up as it stands there for too long, we get a light bodied, thin feel to the last bits of the brew. Overall, a solid stout, not too heavy, bit well balanced between its different flavours.

This beer we tasted and it tasted like it was missing. The added coffee and coconut are too minimal. Cheers from Cannery Row Beer Club.

Draft @ Hyatt Recency LAX. Nice roasty, coffee aroma. Black colour with reddish highlights, beige head that fades with good lacing. Flavor is a little sweet, roast, coffee...delicious. Med body, lively on the tongue. Overall, a very smooth, drinkable stout. coachd (802) - Missouri, USA - MAY 24, 2017
High quality espresso aroma. Light and malty for a stout, but the coffee is there. Ink black color with a huge tan head. Tastes like good iced coffee. Malty, creamy, not a lot of roast. Weak and watery palate. Well made but I donít like my stouts this light. stantheman (1036) - British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 17, 2017
UPDATED: MAY 18, 2017 On tap at St Augustineís in Vancouver. A black beer with a moderate tan head and a nose of chocolate and coffee. This is confirmed on tasting. Sweet, creamy chocolate and coffee notes. Very smooth. No bitterness detected. Nice. 4 batneil (710) - - MAY 12, 2017
Nice smooth beer. Chocolate and coffee without being too sweet or bitter. Very pleasant beer. (K)
