COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black House is an oatmeal coffee stout bursting with coffee aroma and flavor. Modern Times is one of the only breweries in the world to roast our own coffee, which allows us to be exceptionally picky about which coffees we use and how we roast them. The result is an abundantly flavorful beer thats incredibly complex and aromatic, with loads of roast character and a chocolate-covered espresso bean finish. But Black House packs all that flavor into a reasonable package: at only 5.8% ABV, it can comfortably be consumed by the pint.

16oz can pours with a nice dark mahogany colored body that supports a full tan head of foam. The aroma offers up earthy chocolate flavored coffee as well as a touch of maltiness ball and dark roasted malts. The taste is smooth and deep with rich malt sweetened dark roasted coffee, some earthy coffee, burnt malts and chocolate. It maintains dark to near burnt maltiness right into the finish.

473ml can. Pours very dark brown with a thin but persistent tan head. Aroma: coffee beans, lots of it, roasted malts and some chocolate. Taste: predominantly roasted coffee beans, some chocolate giving it a slight sweetness, malt, mildly bitter coffee finish. Silky smooth mouthfeel, medium body. Lovely stuff.

Nitro at Base Camp Pizza at Heavenly Valley - pours black with a slight brown edge, tan head. A bit crisp at first before yielding to a lovely silkiness. Nutty, slight lactose nose with cocoa. Lots in this, vanilla bean, cocoa, leather, lactose, nuts, comes together nicely.

Smells like roasted coffee beans. Taste is grainy exactly like a dark blend should taste. Not overlly chocolatey.

Aroma is sweet caramel coffee. Appearance is almost black with a burgundy tint, medium off white head. Taste is coffee sweet malt forward, mild chocolate roast. Palate is medium. Roasty coffee lingers. Overall a nice beer, but nothing extraordinary for the price.

My concerns about Black House being overrated proved to be unnecessary. Black House is a beautifully rich, creamy coffee-infused Stout with tons of coffee boldness and some balancing sweetness. Bitter, earthy espresso-like coffee, cream, and chocolate in the flavor profile. Velvety texture with some brightness coming from the roasted beans. As one of the core beers in the MT lineup, it absolutely delivers.

Hopmaestro (1432) - rebro, SWEDEN - DEC 16, 2016
Aroma is obvious coffee and roasted malty notes with some hints of vanilla and toffee on the sweeter side notes. Taste is at first slightly metallic actually, but when you let it rest in the glass for a while it fades out and taste is more pleasant. Hard roasted coffee grounds, chocolate, cocoa powder and light earthy notes. Light creamy and sweet notes together with the hard roast gives this one a little edge after all.
