Draft from notes. Pours a dark brown color with a medium sized beige head. The aroma had caramel malt, bourbon, vanilla, oak, chocolate, and moderate winter spices. The flavor had caramel, bourbon, molasses, vanilla, oak, moderate spices, some dark fruit character, brown sugar with a bit of booze, medium bodied, smooth, some sweetness, decent barrel aged beer from these guys. VD beer #1 - oaky nose. Wow! Vanilla and bourbon. Wife disapproves. Easy to drink but has a cheesy finish. Doesn’t have the bite one expects out od BA beers. Gums are going numb. drfabulous (8090) - Lexington, Kentucky, USA - DEC 22, 2014
Draught at Whole Foods. Creamy chocolate goodness with some touches of bourbon. Alcohol hidden. Well done. Sledutah (7722) - Utah, USA - OCT 6, 2014

Aroma is woody and carmel. Taste is woody, toasted malts and vanilla
on tap @ Party Town / Florence KY --- clear very dark ruby brown, good tan head cover, lace sheeting. Aroma is good roasted malt with a hint of bourbon. Taste begins with creamy roasted malt, adding dried fruit and oak before turning to an alcohol laden bourbon finish. This is a potent brew, but well conceived, not overdone. Best for me in small doses.

Clear, deep red-brown with a small off-white head.
Caramel, boozy aroma.
Dark fruit, caramel and alcohol aroma.
Heavy alcohol presence, but balanced to be nice and warming.
Nicely done....a good winter sipper. JaBier (8027) - Capital City, Ohio, USA - APR 14, 2014
On tap at World of Beer on 4/8/14. Clear brown in color with a medium beige head. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, malt and slight spice. Malty and boozy flavor with caramel character before a spicy and boozy finish. shrubber85 (11452) - Greenville, Indiana, USA - MAR 30, 2014
Draft. Vinous barley malt and alcohol aroma. Chestnut with small head. Woody sweet wine/cherry malt and light alcohol flavor. Very tasty. phaleslu (10327) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAR 20, 2014
Draft snifter at The Brass Tap - U Square. Whew. Last beer of the night and it got me through an exhausting overtime. Anyway, it pours a deep brown color with a moderate beige head that leaves some spots in the glass. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, oak, molasses, marshmallow, chocolate, and mellow winter spices. Flavor of bourbon, molasses, oak, spices, dark fruits, earth, and toasted brown sugar. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a smooth, sweet, barely spiced mouthfeel. Nice barrel treatment. On tap at Winter Warmer Fest 2014
The final sample of the afternoon was a winner from Cincinnati. I’ve liked Moerlein ever since running across their Over the Rhine ale a few years ago. Barrel aging a solid winter seasonal like Christkindl could not have gone much better.
Aroma / Appearance - A deep caramel liquid is rich and mysterious as if somebody sucked the filling out of a case of Twix bars. Vanilla, whipped cream, malt, and the soothing notes of well executed barrel aging result in a robust heady nose.
Flavor / Palate - Caramel, malt, and vanilla emerge on the tongue. Sticking like glue they manage to retain a laid back profile despite the full bodied mouthfeel. Some nuances were lost in the process. Overall though this is a fantastic release that makes me look forward to one day making it to their tasting room in downtown Cincinnati.
