Smooth and delightful. rich with a wonderful lingering aftertaste. The flavor is enhanced as the beer warms up a bit. I plan to have this beer again, directly off the storage shelf at 55~60 degrees in the next few days! JaBier (8396) - Capital City, Ohio, USA - FEB 9, 2013
12oz bottle purchased at Kroger on Polaris. Pours a clear reddish copper with a medium tan head. Malty aroma with sweet caramel, some roast and bread. Malty and caramelly flavor with some roast before a light finish. b3shine (9271) - Indiana, USA - JAN 26, 2013
Draft to taster. Looks solid; a transparent orangish-brown with off-white lacing. Smells and tastes semi-sweet and malty with notes of caramel. Good on the palate. A solid example of the style. monk191 (2022) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JAN 23, 2013
A good, but not one of the best, dark lagers. Smells of coffee, cherries and strawberries. Pours a beautiful maroon, with a tan head. Taste is fruity and malty, lots of cherries, with a slightly weird lingering aftertaste. Had in the bottle from beer of the month.

Aroma of caramel, pumpernickel, slight toast and little chocolate. Appearance is deep, rusty red brown with slightly sticky tan head. The flavor was mostly caramel and bread up front; the finish was moderately dry. Palate was medium, creamy and soft. Another solid Moerlein beer in the German tradition.

pours a deep brown with ruby edges. Sweet caramel and roasted malt dominate the aroma. Smooth and creamy, with caramel, roasted malt, and a bit of bittersweet chocolate. Perhaps a touch of smoke, too, but definitely not enough to make this a Schwarzbier.
Tasty and balanced, and with just 5% ABV, you can enjoy Barabarossa all day Ughsmash (7502) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - OCT 19, 2012
Bottled. Poured crystal-clear medium brown with a dense, well-retained beige head. The aroma was sweet, but about right for the style.. darker fruit, some berries, and molasses joined by some peppery accents.. warm and very fruity overall. The flavor found the same dark fruits at the core, paired with molasses and a touch of semi-sweet chocolate.. finished with good balance between sweetness, spicage, and warmth. Light-medium bodied and well-carbonated on the palate.. very good mouthfeel.. solid brew! osu97gp (678) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - AUG 9, 2012
Pours a red-brown with a thin off-white head. Aroma of leaves, caramel, and nuts. Flavor of caramel, dark fruit and some light roasted malt. jimmie65 (330) - Texas, USA - JUL 28, 2012
Very dark brown pour with a minimal head. Aroma is slightly nutty, malt. Light bitter, light sweet. Flavors of caramel, nuts, tea, a little chocolate. Light bitter finish.
Pleasant, drinkable. mikemccarthy (94) - Huntington, West Virginia, USA - JUL 24, 2012
Pours a translucent mahogany with a medium, white head that stays. Superb lacing. Malty, slightly roasted aroma. Full, creamy mouthfeel. Malty flavor, slightly finished by some sour notes in the finish. Nonetheless, a good example of the style.
