The aroma has toasty malt, chocolate, and caramel. The appearance is light brown-red with a small head. The flavor is like the aroma but its also grainy and bitter with a burnt bread flavor. The palate is thin. Overall it has a couple of nice qualities like the aroma but it’s not that good. golubj (1377) - San Mateo, California, USA - OCT 18, 2008
Bottle, received in a trade. Brownish amber pour with almost no head. Aroma is mostly sweet caramel, maybe some sugar. Flavor is the same, a little doughy, lager finish is somewhat crisp. Felsenbrau (54) - Middletown, Ohio, USA - SEP 27, 2008
UPDATED: FEB 9, 2009 Pours a deep brownish copper with little lacing and quickly-disappearing light tan head. Aroma of caramel, dried fruit, and cooked asparagus. Slightly sweet, flavors of orange, some toasted malt, alcohol. Finishes slightly sour. Rather disappointing, would not buy again. Purchased 355ml bottle, 9/28/08, Kroger Marketplace, Franklin, Ohio. Sampled 9/29/08. stison42 (318) - Blacksburg, Virginia, USA - SEP 21, 2008
Dark red. No head. Smells of wet cardboard. Dirty, malty taste. strange and cheap tasting. jaymobrown (1845) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - SEP 6, 2008
Light copper, almost a dirty straw color. Malt flavors. Sweetish with a sticky quality. Really nice nose: caramels, malts, raisins drowned in sugar. Warm. Good balance at the end. Good.

12oz bottle. Dark ruby color with a dissipating head. Nice malts and hops with big caramel flavors and hints of smoky chocolate. GAManiac (1946) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - AUG 20, 2008
Pours a clear, deep copper with a small off-white head that dissipates quickly to a ring with no lacing. The aroma has a lot of roasted malts with sweet dark fruits and caramel on top. A hint of hops in the nose as well. More of the same (in a good way) in the taste with a huge sweet caramel malt backbone and only a hint of the roasted quality in the finish. Hops make an appearance in the aftertaste with the faintest bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, creamy, and sweet. This is an extremely drinkable dunkel and a very good beer overall. Bottle thanks to alexsdad06: Pours a transparent dark copper mahogany with a thin, spotty-lacing off-white head. Aroma of toasty grainy slightly musty Munich malts and a touch of authentic noble hops. Body starts fairly full with a nice doughy dark caramel sweetness and mild bittering hop balance with some light fruity notes. FInishes smooth and quite drinkable. A pretty good dunkel. Pours a dark reddish brown color with a medium sized tan head. Aroma is a roasted malt and very sweet, like candy and a little bit nutty. Flavor is also very malty with a lot more grain coming in than was apparent on the nose. Still, there is a very sweet underlying character that drives any true hop bitterness out of the beer, which is a bit disappointing. Still a nice beer for the malt heads out there ehhdayton (1188) - USA - JUL 8, 2008
Pours brown with an off white head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt and caramel. Flavor has tastes of chocolate and roasted malt.
