3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Nice deep amber-brown color. Light brown head. Caramel aroma. Flavor is candy corn, with slight dry fruit.
Pours a deep Ruby red with a khaki head. Aromas of malt and some caramel and molasses. Taste the same with a little sweetness from the malt. Nice beer. Light palate with little lacing in the glass. TAR (2778) - Blue Ridge Mountains, North Carolina, USA - OCT 25, 2016
Draft at Moerlein Lager House. Rusty chestnut. Broken, but creamy, eggshell foam. Faulty aroma of Red Delicious apple peel, DMS, soggy bran flakes, hint of marzipan. Graceless fizzy carbonation films the palate with foamy residue. Vinegary acids combine with poorly defined malt which is further blurred by DMS. Notes of wet bread hurt the structure and bury the crisper earthy textures. Short-lived snappiness offers some relief from the pervasive DMS. Underattenuated finish is marred by soggy leaves, apricot, and a firm punch of Munich-derived toffee-drizzled hay. Here’s another dud from Morlein. As with their helles and pils, this calls for some fine-tuning. Dogbrick (13532) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - JUL 13, 2016
This brew is a dark brownish-amber color with a medium light beige head that recedes steadily to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of roast malt, caramel and dark fruit. Light-bodied with a sweet caramel malt character, with a bit of fruit and floral hops in the background. The finish is sweet with a malty aftertaste. Slightly above average overall. Poured into a stange.
4.25 A: Clear light brown color. Two fingers of frothy beige head. Retention is good and a finger of lacing is left.
3.75 S: Roasty and sweet with great balance. Chocolate with caramel and a pleasant toastiness.
3.5 T: Again this has great balance. Rich neutral malty sweetness. Caramel, toastiness, chocolate, roast with a touch of raisiny fruits.
4.5 M: Heavier medium body. Rich, velvety creaminess. Good moderate carbonation. Quite nice here.
3.75 D: Good beer overall. Good flavors with a wonderful mouthfeel.

Pours barely translucent chocolate brown with a nice light tan head. Aroma is largely roast malt with a hint of molasses. Flavor starts with toasty malt and adds hay, molasses and subtle caramel notes to the mix. Mouthfeel has OK body and strong fizz. Double dark dare ya!

Appearance- Beer pours dark brown in color with a reddish tint, with a small lacing of caramel colored. Beer is clear and lacing clings to the sides of the glass. Head dies down to a murk across the top at the end of the pour.
Smell- Light and dark malts upfront, perfect scent on a standard dunkel. I don’t know about double dark, but dunkel is very correct here. A bit of caramel on the aroma as well. Hops are noble and subtle.
Taste- Rich, smooth and crisp. Some nuttiness, caramel, earthly malts, and ample sweetness. The malt here is the big winner with light fruits, dates, figs, and a hint of grape. A little bit of hop bitterness at the end to balance it out
Mouthfeel- Light, creamy, medium high in carbonation, and medium light bodied. This beer looks heavy and smells like it should be heavy and malty, but it was actually light and refreshing, which was a great surprise.
Drinkability- Excellent representation of a Munich dunkel style. Maverick34 (3313) - New York, USA - JAN 27, 2015
Bottled. Dark brown pour with plenty of foam. Caramel German malts and clean finish. A nice dunkel. drfabulous (8468) - Lexington, Kentucky, USA - DEC 31, 2014
12 ounce bottle. Some chocolate and creamy taste. Light body. Bit malty. Ok overall. wesk74 (1) - Ohio, USA - DEC 6, 2014 does not count
Caramel malt and sugar sweetness in aroma but doesn’t come through well in taste. Expected a better mouth feel for the style, why is this so carbonated? As much or more so than a soda. Jrwhitney6 (503) - - NOV 22, 2014
Beer of month club offering. Pours a transparent reddish brown with no head - kinda looks like ice tea. Aroma of sweet malt. Taste is of caramel and malt. It's not very exciting, but it is fine.
