Hazy dark brown color, medium tan head. Aroma is winter fruit and light spice. Taste has a bit of citrus and spice. Medium to light body, a bit too light for the style.

Bottle. Beer of the month club. Clear brown color with small beige head. Aroma of malt, caramel, cookies, some pleasant hoppiness and some fruitiness. Flavor starts sweetish with pretty thick maltiness, some caramel, hints of chocolate and light fruitiness with a nice bitter, somewhat earthy and spicy, hoppy finish with malt still in the background. Medium-bodied. After I pour the residue left in the bottle, the beer gets a slightly yeasty character. The hoppy balance makes this one quite enjoyable.

Bottle from Kroger. Poured clear dark reddish brown color with a large off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Medium aroma of sweet spicy malt. Medium body with a full texture. Good balanced bittersweet flavor and a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Solid drinkable beer.

Draft. Cherry barley malt and light alcohol aroma. Dark brown with moderate head. Sweet cherry and light chocolate malt flavor. Mildly bitter herbal/alcohol finish. Very nice.

Bottle… Clear copper ale with a small, creamy, white head. There’s not a whole lot going on, aroma-wise, as I can barely pull anything up from the glass – maybe a bit of caramel, toffee, plum and date. Light to medium-bodied with barbed carbonation. Decently balanced; leans ever so slightly on the sweet side. Finishes crisp and mildly sweet. Bottle courtesy of mgumby10!

12 oz. bottle. Pours a deep amber color with an average size creamy white head. The aroma is moderately sweet malt, caramel, fruits and nuts. The flavor opens with moderately sweet caramel malt and dark fruits. Later, it almost has a spicy bread quality. An attempt at hoppy bitterness tries to come through in the finish, but is not enough. Overall, this is fairly well done and I am encouraged by the new beers Moerlein has started to offer in recent months.

phaleslu (10324) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JAN 2, 2010
12 oz. bottle from Bigg’s in Hyde Park. Pours a nice clear copper color with an inch-thick white head. Aroma of caramel malts, cinnamon, nutmeg, honey, hops, and floral notes. Flavor was sweet and lightly spiced, with honey, caramel malts, the same spices as above and maybe a little pepper to boot, and gingerbread. Light bodied, and too watery and thin on the palate- could have used some more body. Decent winter brew.
