Bottle from shigadeyo. Poured clear golden color with an average frothy white head that was mostly diminished with minimal lacing. Light to moderate grassy & light malt aroma. Medium body with soft carbonation. Moderate sweet flavor with a light sweet finish of short duration. My expectations where not met and this is a weak replacement for the original. Bottled as "Original Lager". This beer pours a clear golden color with a medium thin and fizzy white head that burns away steadily. Spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of bready malt and mild hops. Light body with flavors of sweet malt and grassy hops. The finish is short and mildy bitter with a hoppy aftertaste. Average overall. crossovert (12934) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - FEB 26, 2012
It pours a clear gold with a frothy white head that leaves some decent lacing.
Smell isn’t like a true helles. More like an APL. The yeast is uncontrolled.
The flavor is sweet and yeasty. A bit of noble hops. Really not typical for the style. shrubber85 (11408) - Greenville, Indiana, USA - MAR 30, 2014
Draft. Honey and barley malt aroma. Pale yellow with small head. Sweet creamy barley malt and hay flavor. Nice body. Great - love this beer. hopscotch (11106) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - APR 23, 2009
Bottle… Clear yellow lager with a small, fizzy, white head that disappears in a flash. The aroma is restrained and hard to figure out – maybe due to there being no lasting head. After a vigorous swirl, I am finally able to conjure up some notes of honey and toasted biscuit. Medium-bodied with lively carbonation. Very decently balanced. Grainy, biscuity, honey-malt sweetness held in check by peppery hop bitterness. Somewhat crisp, clean finish that dries way out.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear golden (straw) color with a small off white head. The aroma is light pale malts and a hint of grass and bread. The flavor is very light pale malt, grass, and a light general bitterness. Well carbonated and very fresh. It only seems to be lacking in a personality. Where is the flavor? I hope they get back on track with their next release. phaleslu (10271) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUN 30, 2009
UPDATED: AUG 28, 2009 12 oz. bottle from Baba Budan’s in Cincinnati. Gold pour with a little haze and no head. Aroma of straw, hops, malt, and yeast. Flavor follows suit. The straw aroma and flavor were surprisingly dominant in this one. Light body, and very active carbonation. Dry and crisp with a mild hop aftertaste. Second rating (up from 2.9). Taster on tap at the Lager House. Clear golden color. Good thin white head. Good retention on the head, good dots of lace. Nice bready aroma, light to medium body. Soft, smooth carbonation. Clean dry finish. Light sweet taste, little bitter. Clean, solid lager. b3shine (8875) - Indiana, USA - JAN 29, 2013
Bottle (labeled Christian Moerlein Original Lager) to half-pint (shared with the Mrs.). Looks solid; a transparent gold with white lacing. Smells doughy and mildly bitter, toasty, and skunky, although not in a bad way. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. An easy-drinking beer, and a solid example of the style.
