COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cincinnati-based Christian Moerlein Brewing Co. will introduce its latest brand extension - Moerlein Over-the-Rhine Ale - on April 25, 2007. Moerlein OTR Ale was initially going to be called Moerlein Pale Ale, but Hardman said he decided to name it OTR Ale instead, in part as a tribute to the many people who are working to revitalize the long-neglected community just north of Cincinnati’s central business district. The beer is of the type that early brewers in Over-the-Rhine would have made in the era before modern refrigeration, he said. The recipe includes plenty of hops, which acted as a preservative, and lots of malt to balance the bitterness of the hops.

Slightly hazy amber body with almost no head. Complex, inviting aroma consisting of caramel and malty sweetness and grapefruit and pine hops. Smooth, medium palate, a touch oily. The flavor starts with sweet caramel and finishes with a slight sour/bitter bite. Sugared grapefruit. A very tasty and easy to drink beer.

12 ounce bottle from hayduke that we had together via facebook chat. Hazed golden / light brown. A smaller off white head. Aroma is tangerine, honey, and malts. A hint of pepper and yeast sediment. Fruit is pleasant and oranges are tasted late. That tangerine. Pleasant is a good word for this. Bitterness is barely noticed and hops are very soft. It drinks like a bitter. Kind of an oily feel.

From Aug 2008 I got this in a trade with zapata. Thanks Ben! It pours a clear dark amber with a finger head of foam that quickly shrinks to a fine layer. Good lacing. The smell has some caramel sweetness to it along with some slight floral hop notes. It's on the light side but it's good. The taste is nice! Good caramel sweetness with some biscuit and some grain and I find this is a malt based APA. A few more sips in and the Fuggles hops push some good semi bitterness into the mix. Result. A very tasty and very balanced Pale Ale indeed! Love it and I don't think that there are enough of these types around. Medium mouthfeel and lightish carbonation help to really bring out the flavours. It finishes on the bitter and dry side. And, drinkability is very good. It's 6%abv but I *know* I could drink 2 or 3 of these at a sitting. Here's another interesting and tasty brew from Christian Moerlein. I'm very happy that I decided to seek some out.

amber color; bready malt aroma with some floral hop notes; bready, toasted malt with some bitterness; pretty bland and boring

Amber beer with a foamy light tan head that drops considerable lace. Nose of sour dough, caramel, and nuts. Flavor has a little fruity tang initially, which is surprising, followed by bread, nuts, and light caramel, all of which finishes with a slightly acidic bitterness that lingers. Many layers of flavor--pretty good beer.

appearance: pretty--reddish orange amber, creamy light tan head. aroma: caramel malts, some stone fruit, grassy to floral hops, and some herbal stuff going on too. taste: slightly bitter, pretty astringent, with some aspirin, light honey and caramel, floral and herbal hops. finish: lingering stone fruit and medicine, some toasted nuts. notes: Not…my favorite. Couple more bottles of this to try, maybe it was just an off night. Bottle from the Craft Beer of the Month Club.

On tap at the Campus Pub. Lots of hops without being too bitter, some malt backbone.

Rating this the next day after a foggy evening. From what I remember at yard house, it was orange and tasted really good.

Bottle (variety pack). Pours hazy amber. Thick light amber head, long lasting, with much lacing. Aroma faintly of bread, citrus, and strangely a very slight hint of fresh dog poop? (I’ve not encounter that one before!) Taste slightly bitter, becoming more bitter over time, some orange and grapefruit, finishes more bitter. Not too bad, but probably wouldn’t buy again.
