Gangstergafje (1142) - Capelle aan den IJssel, NETHERLANDS - APR 14, 2017
Woow. The looks of this porter are incredible. On the naked eye the color of the beer is pitch black on the naked eye. Light reveals a nice ruby red glow. The color of the beer is crystal clear. On top of the beer there is a very thick soft layer of almond coloured foam. More foam than I’ve ever seen on a porter. I like the feeling of the soft foam when you take a sip. Foam retention is superb. The smell of the beer is nice. It is salty. I smell some salted caramel. I also smell lovely malt aroma’s, quite toasty and roasty. The malt aroma’s give a nice burnt bitterness and a salty touch. I also smell some refreshing hop notes. The smell isn’t very strong, but it is very nice. I also smell some bitter and sweet chocolate. This aroma is propelled after some time, as the beer warms up. Lovely, especially together with the malt aroma’s. The taste of the beer is lovely. There is a strong malty base, containing flavours of bittersweet chocolate, salted caramel, coffee and toast. There is a nice burnt bitterness. I also taste some dark fruits, a hint of plum, and some bitter hops. The beer is both dark and refreshing. The malts and hops accompany each other perfectly. What a good porter. This really is one of the top segment beers. Lovely. The beer is filled with strong bitters, some salts, and lovely sweets. The chocolate and coffee are very clear, but don’t smother the other flavors. Perfectly done. The palate of the beer is also lovely. Medium full body, smooth texture but also a bit sticky and tingly. The carbonation is medium, quite a lot of gas for a porter. The finish is lovely. It contains some amazing flavours of chocolate and coffee and bitterness and yes!

Thanks Omhper for this gift! I really enjoy the aroma of this beer is amazing! Color is pure black with a beige head that keeps a thin layer until finish, aroma is complex, notes of Roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and plum, flavor is pretty much the same with a tasty bitter balanced with a soft sweetness. Finish is loooong.... I love it! My trip to Scandinavia was really rewarded!! :D

330 ml bottle, from Systembolaget. ABV is 5.5%. Black colour, big brown head. Lovely aroma of roasted malts, dark bitter chocolate and coffee, hints of English liquorice. The flavour is roasty with notes of coffee, hints of liquorice, dark chocolate and burnt toast. Some fruity notes in the background. Distinct bitter finish, both from the hops and the roasted malts.

Sampled from bottle. Near black colour with beautiful pale brown rocky head. Clean aroma from cocoa and grassy hops. Smooth, chocolatey flavour with flowery, piney, nutty and grassy hops, rubber ballooon, mint, bitter chocolate, bit of acidity and an overall feeling of rye bread - all are elegantly acompanying to the flavour profile. Velvetty mouthfeel and really nice balance. The finish is long and there’s bitter chocolate, rye bread and slight acidity lingering. Medium bodied. Bitterness is smooth and not overpowering. Great beer with the best balance!

UPDATED: MAR 28, 2012 Black with a brown head. Aroma: cocoa, cream, roasted malt, dark chocolate, citrus, some fruit. Taste: Dark bitter chocolate, coffee, hints of rubber, some fruit and citrus. Creamy mouthfeel. Really nice! Tastes more than its 5.5%
The above is an aged bottle, trying the 2012 bottles, I get the same as on draught in 2010: hoppier with citrus and pine, still the same chocolate and licorice, higher bitterness, dry finish.

Bottle, bought @ Systembolaget, Hyltebruk.
Pours dark brown with a giant, creamy, light-brown head. Diminishes very slowly. Lovely looks. Roasted, chocolate and hoppy aroma. Light grassy, some liqourice and a slight blackberry note. Low to medium carbonation, lovely velvety light creamy mouthfeel. Light dryness as well. Flavour is heavy roasted, some liqourice making it rather harsh at first. Then comes sweeter chocolate, milky and nutty flavours. Fine, grassy and fruity hoppy finish. Really a lovely drink. Great ashy and hoppy dryness in the aftertaste. Yum!

Bottle from Systembolaget. Foamy, lacing, light brown cream head. Body is opaque black. Strong aroma of coffee ground and roast. Spiced hops and burnt caramel notes. Full malt body. Roasted, with a coffee accent, and a nice lingering chocolatey touch. Extremely well-bodied for a 5.5% beer. Creamy in the mouth. Ends up with a pleasant roasted-malty bitterness. Awesome beer!
