(Bottle, vintage 2012) Dark reddish brown colour with a brief, frothy, beige head. Malty, vinous nose with notes of caramel, dark bread, dried fruit, raisins, prunes, oak wood and aromas of both cognac and bourbon. Malty, vinous taste with caramel, dried fruit, raisins, cherries in brandy, dark bread, prunes, chocolate, black coffee, salty liquorice and a fiery, vinous finish with oak wood, bourbon, a balanced bitterness and a warming alcohol glow. Full body, quite sweet. Subtle is hardly the word, it doesn’t hold back on anything, lots of malt and bourbon character and it doesn’t really hide the alcohol. But it’s really tasty, with a clean and rounded mouthfeel and a certain hop presence. Very nice.

Flaske 375ml fra Vinmonopolet Tromsdalen. Ekstremt dyp amber.

Bottle @ NK Bar. Dark brown colour with a brown head. Aroma of fruit, sugar, alcohol, bourbon. Flavour is sweet, caramel, dark fruit, some bourbon, alcohol. A good beer. Might get a better balance after some years of storage.

Sigmund (7969) - Tau, NORWAY - DEC 2, 2014
375 ml bottle, vintage 2012, from the Norwegian importer. ABV is 17.2%. Cloudy dark brown colour, moderate to low off-white to beige head. Intense sweetish and alcoholic aroma of molasses, bourbon, vanilla and oak, Very oaky flavour, again bourbon and vanilla, with loads of molasses, sugar and alcohol, also roasty and hoppy notes. Impressive in a way, but not harmonious. Not sure that I would buy this one again. *P.S.: As I finished the bottle, I have to admit that I somehow found the alcoholic warmth quite pleasing, as I slowly got used to it. There are also some notes of dark dried fruits that are quite nice.

Bottle (Stockholm Beer Festival 2012) - Brown in colour. Bourbon, toffee, nuts, dried fruit and pine in the aroma. Warming, fruity and hoppy taste with a noticeable hop presence and notes of pine, toffee, walnuts and marzipan. It doesn’t taste as strong as it is.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Sweet smell with hops and dried fruit. Similar taste with a boozy finish. Nice beer to lean back and sip at, probably stores well.

(bottle, many thanks to whoever brought this!) pours a murky deep brown colour with a frothy off-white head. aroma of heavy alcohol and brown sugar, with notes of hay, some banana and musty higher alcohols. flavour is mostly the same, lots of brown sugar, caramel and alcohol. heavy-bodied with soft carbonation.

Powerful stuff. Bourbon, alcohol edge, bitterness, sweetness. barley wine character, I guess this will mellow a bit with age.

Beer5000 (6773) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - JAN 1, 2015
Sample @ Kristiansand ølfestival. Unclear reddish brown body with a lacing, small off-white head. Strong and good aroma of sweet malt, caramel, dry fruit, hint of chocolate and surprisingly low alcohol. Flavor is sweet malt, caramel, dry fruit, oranges, some oak and bitterness. Full bodied and long lasting aftertaste with warming alcohol. It’s kinda sweet and boozy but not in a bad way.
