Poured from bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a deep brown color with a small tan colored head. The head fades very fast leaving only a trace of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is quite heavy of a roasted malt smell but has a huge dose of a caramel and molasses as well. Some other aromas of a cherry and prune nature are there as well mixing with the other sweet smells and producing a potently sweet smell overall.
Taste – The taste begins with a bit of a roasted malt flavor and a whole lot of sweet caramel and some dark fruit flavors of cherry and plum. As the taste advances the caramel transitions to a more molasses like taste with a bit of chocolate and even more cherry and plum coming to the tongue. Some flavors of a cola sweetness then come to the tongue more toward the end. This makes the brew rather sweet overall, but with a little bit of a more herbal and earthy hop flavor coming to the tongue, while not balanced out the sweetness is subdued a bit, leaving a sweet and lightly hopped flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the slightly thicker and creamier side with a carbonation level that is on the average side. Overall the feel wasn’t all that great in my opinion. The thicker body accentuates the sweet flavors a bit too much with a lower carbonation likely having been better for the mix of lighter dark and hop flavors, possibly giving them more influence overall.
Overall – I know a scotch ale should be sweet, but this was just rather unbalanced and not all the great of a scotch ale. The flavors don’t really meld well on this one and with the rather poor mouthfeel and look, it really doesn’t have much draw. Leprechaun56 (2) - Georgia, USA - SEP 27, 2014 does not count

Toasty sweet scotch ale. Tastes slightly lactic and off. Some toffee raisin and caramel with a bit of nutty malt. Finishes too sweet with light tartness. DrSteveBrule (52) - - AUG 26, 2014
Very dark pour with a decent creamy tan head. Nose of sweet raisins and a hint of smoke. Tastes of roasted malts. Smoke only seems to come through in the finish and lingers on the palate.

12 oz bottle courtesy of secret santa. Thanks. Pours a dark brown color with a big foamy beige head that has excellent retention. The aroma is dark fruits, trace of peat and roasted barley. The taste features toffee, raisins, nuts, ann a bit of brown sugar. The palate is full and creamy and the carbonation is medium. Finishes long and dry. Overall: Very impressive malt bomb CJ_Pain (221) - Georgia, USA - AUG 1, 2014
Nice !!!!!!! Pours a beautiful mahogany color with minimal head retention. Aroma is very subtle. Perfect malty butterscotch like taste that lingers in the after taste. A year round offering big IMHO perfect for a late spring or early fall day.
