A dark ale with a sweet smell. It has a smooth taste with a light smoke flavor, not over powering at all. It is an excellent sipping beer and goes well as a night-cap.

Tasty Scotch ale, sweet but not too sweet, peaty but not too peaty, smokey but...you get the point. Caramel and biscuity malts form a solid base, while slight fig and bourbon notes underline an appreciably firm hop bitterness on the finish, the slightest wisp of smoke adding depth to the fade. Not all that pretty, and the aroma comes across subdued, but otherwise a solid beer. Better than my score suggests. tightslice (1415) - Redwood City, California, USA - JUN 1, 2017
On tap at Mellow Mushroom in Acworth, GA. Aroma is light caramel with some woody, leafy notes. Taste is mild caramel, some roasty malts and some earthiness. This seemed very weak, thin and overall a bit underwhelming for the style. voyageurmike (502) - Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 16, 2017
Sampler from Growler USA. Black and full bodied, creamy. Dark fruit and caramel taste. Bittersweet malt finish.

Pours a clear amber body with a frothy beige head. The nose is sweet toasted and caramel malt with a light hint of leafy hops. The flavor is a little weak, some caramel malt with just a hint of iced tea crystal malt on the finish. Not as smooth and chewy as I want for the style, fine fizzy carbonation. Meh, an ok effort, but not quite as substantial as I’d like for a Scotch ale. Arayaga2 (2254) - portland, Oregon, USA - OCT 7, 2016
Even-toned olive black, with a cm of finely bubbled, bone colored head. Aroma is rich, caramelized malt, and taste is the same, and very malty, without being cloying or overly sweet. Smoke into the finish. Thanks, dad. whiteJRSmith (2) - Tuscaloosa, Alabama, USA - SEP 7, 2016 does not count
Out of the bottle. Coffee and caramel notes throughout. Pleasant aroma but nothing special. It is a straight up Scottish Ale. If you want to know what they taste like then this is a very good beer to go off of. Very smooth and enjoyable. I would buy again. nearbeer (5563) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - JUN 29, 2016
12 oz. bottle. Pours opaque and dark brown. Nose is earthy molasses and cocoa. Tastes of toffee, cocoa, earthy leaf and char. Medium-heavy body is well balanced with a smooth, medium carbonation. Suttree (6484) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - MAY 2, 2016
Is it a law that any Scotch / Scottish style ale has to have the word "kilt" in the name? Anyhoo, this was pretty good, a nice mix of toasty, earthy flavors and good deal of dark roasty flavors, with a very subtle smokey undertone. I liked it, even if it was probably better suited for sipping by a fire instead of sitting at a shadeless picnic table in 85 degree weather.
