Got from the brewery in Riwaka, 1.25L. Nice colour, straw like gold. Aroma Is mostly grapefruit and grain. Some diacetyl. Taste is similar, lasting bitterness. Citrus fruit and grain. lots of sauvin character. Not a lot of flavour on the finish. Very refreshing but would be nice if the weather was warmer! Keen to try some others from this brewery.
I’m always a bit wary of buying a golden ale or a blonde ale. You never know if you’re going to get something intriguing and flavourful or something bland and uninteresting that may as well be mainstream lager. This particular effort was a delight to the senses from start to finish. It appeared a hazy amber-gold with a persistent white head that left good lace down the side of the glass. It smelt fragrant: of grassy hops, flowers grapefruit and other citrus. Upon tasting it was cool with a prickly carbonation. Plenty of hops, oranges, hibiscus, dessert sorbet and mandarins. There was also a gratifying twist of bitterness that say a good lengthy finish.
My venture thus rewarded, I had plenty left in a decent sized bottle to carry on with. A top notch effort that brewer.
