COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mont Des Cats is a trappist abbey in Northern France, a few kilometres from the Belgian border. They do not have a brewery in their monastery, so their beer cannot show the Authentic Trappist Product logo. But it doesnt get much closer they have their beer brewed by the monks of Chimay!
Developed independently to the Chimay range, the beer is a lovely copper colour. The link to Chimay is evident in the distinctive Chimay yeast character, in both the aroma and taste.
A pleasant caramel malt sweetness introduces the beer, being joined by hints of dried fruits, gentle spices and an earthy, herbal hop character. As the beer progresses, the bitterness seems to build toward a nice lingering finish.
The abbey only makes one beer, with no intention for more. The abbey is recognised as a Trappist Monastery, allowing them to use the term on the labeling. But as the beer is not brewed on their own premises, the beer is not a Trappist ale.

Amberkleurig met stevige schuimkraag, hoppig, licht bittertje, klein zuurtje. Koud uit de koelkast het lekkerst.

Bottle. Murky amber color with generous light brown foam head. Aroma is strong and resembles the fruitiness from wine. It is a nice blend of blue grapes, molasses / maple syrup, sour apples, freshly baked bread, and dried apricots. On the verge of smelling fabricated. Taste is interesting: you get the sour touch of white wine mixed with a touch of rose hip, dried apricots, dried prune, brown sugar. Relatively neutral aftertaste. It reminds of Moederoverste, which I prefer. Nonetheless, this is an interesting addition to the Trappist lineup.

Pours murky caramel. Head reduces to a solid 3mm tight white. Fair amount of lacing on the glass. A generally brighter-fruit aroma than many Trappists (if you will...). Cherry, white grapeskin, Belgian crabapples. Taste is peach fuzz, light rum and some sweet spice and nuts. Mouthfeel is delicately drinkable, yet with full flavour. Carries the sweeter tastes across very well. Actually, not a bad addition to the Trappist range if you want to call it as such. Certainly surpasses the output of Stift Engelszell and Achel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

aroma smells light caramel, floral, orange peel, color is amber with frothy, white foam, not for too long, very high carbonation, lively, medium body with nice bitterness, after a while touch of kiwi and watermelon, creamy mouthfeel, rather short aftertaste

Bottled, 330ml at Clichys Tavern, Pigalle, Paris. Clouded amber with white head. There is a distinct Belgian yeast note to this, fruity, bubble-gum sweet alongside a herby, slightly peppery note. The sweetness persists though, reducing the enjoyment for me. Ends up a fairly average beer.

Herbaceous, peppery nose. Pours a clear amber with a big fluffy head and a lot of fizz. Flavour is pleasingly dry and bitter with less of the underpinning sweetness and fruit you get from many trappists. If there was such a thing as a session BSA, this would be a contender for it. Nice.

Hazy amber, huge fluffy offwhite head. Fruity and spicy malt aroma, wet paper. Flavour is malty with sweet citrus, orange and fruity caramel.

Aroma: zwak maar aangenaam fruit (zuurtjes). Uiterlijk: troebel met weinig schuim. Amberkleur. Lelijk! Smaak: vrij zoet.

In ogni caso promossa.
