Pours dark brown cola color with thin tan head. Sour, vinous, funky aroma with some chocolate and oak. Tart and vinous flavor with lots of oak. Medium body with soft carbonation. Leighton (21307) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 16, 2010
Bottle, at Jimmy’s No. 43 during a Lovullo Tasting Session. This was an interesting - and very good - beer. Poured a purple-brown, almost shiny, like a red wine but a little darker. Had a moderate, off-white head. Sweet, malty aroma with notes of oak, chocolate, some fruit. Flavor was complex, with some caramel and ripe fruit, along with burnt malt and roast, particularly in the finish. Full-bodied with average to light carbonation, some warming. Very nice beer overall. Definitely bend the definition of a Barley Wine in my estimation. nbutler11 (1267) - Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, ENGLAND - SEP 4, 2010
Bottle purchased at Whole Foods, Chandler. Pours a silky black color with a ruby shade around the edges and a lasting beige ring of foam. Smells more like a sour than a barley wine. Brimming with notes of red grapes, green strawberries, oak, lactose, and malt. Incredibly smooth, but not really right for the style. Interesting. fiver29 (1036) - Cleveland, Ohio, USA - OCT 2, 2010
Bottle shared by Alan. Thanks! Pours black with tan head. It whisps away quickly. Aroma really picks up the components of the wine well this beer was aged in. I almost thought I was smelling wine, not beer. Interesting. Plum and blackberry comes through. Medium mouthfeel. Flavors are like what I would expect. It really tastes more like a red wine. Without the strong tannins associated with one. But its still got a touch of tannic feel. Very interesting brew. dcschiller (2208) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - NOV 30, 2010
(375ml bottle). Pours dark cola color with thin rand head. Aroma of concord grapes mostly. Taste is semi-sweet with some sourness. There is a malty backbone to this, however. This smells like a sour, but the base beer is still noticeable. Medium to full bodied with a silky mouthfeel. Grapes definitely coming through in the end. One of the more unique beers I’ve had lately. I would get this again.

bottle pours dark brown with a thin tan head that fades quickly leaving little trace. Aroma is dry red wine, strawberries, big horseblanket notes. Flavor is rich toast and caramel malt notes, mild booze and a big red wine finish of oak, leather and grape tannin. Really nice beer. Dedollewaitor (16171) - Odense, DENMARK - MAR 24, 2012

Bottle thanks to Dan. Aroma is plums, chocolate, and port. Pours deep brown to black with no head. Taste is chocolate, oak, plum, cabernet, and caramel. Very sweet but it has a great tart oak port taste to it. Not too intense but some nice complexity. SkillsFactory (738) - ITALY - JUN 3, 2017
