750 ml bottle. 9.3%. BB 31/Mar/2019. HHOKXXI. Thanks Jukka! Enjoyed on Nov 25 2017.
Dark reddish brown color with no head. Berries, prunes, dark fruits, chocolate and rye in the aroma. Berries, chocolate and some sweetness in the flavor. No carbonation. Slick. One of the worst Barley Wines I've ever tasted.

Raisins, figs, caramel, chocolate in nose. Pours dark brown with beige head. Taste is sweet with raisins, dactyls, bread, caramel, figs, chocolate. Low bitter finish, average to full body, soft carbonation. Overall very good stuff. On tap at Archea, Firenze.

Almost black. Not too big mocha head which recedes quite quickly but still leaves a bit of lacing. A vivid and warming aroma shows roasted, slightly ’dusty’ malts, liquorice, alcohol warminess and a hint of spiciness. Taste has a bittersweet malt base with caramel and roasted notes, slight coffee, slight spiciness, liquorice and a balsam/herbal note. Finishes again bittersweet with a mild but still not too pleasant aftertaste of burnt caramel/alcohol that quite ruins a very good and complex taste. Medium to dense bodied with low to medium carbonation, quite thick but still going down easy enough. Overall a difficult beer to find words for, let’s say that’s somewhere in the middle of a belgian strong dark ale and a stout. Complex and interesting, maybe not perfectly balanced.

330 ml bottle at Hoppy Ending, Naples Italy. Copper colored with off white head. Malty with bread, caramel, nuts and toffee. Semi dry with medium bitterness and medium carbonation.

Roasted, hints of coffee, a bit of vegetable, practically black with a good tan head, medium body, carbonation is soft, dark fruits and roasted notes...not one of my favorite from Montegioco but still good.

Bottle. Bought Aug 2013; BBE date Mar 2017; Drank May 2015 - BCA; very heavily sedimented. Very Dark Brown in colour. Slight beige head. Very Malty; dark chocolate, roasty malts, coffee, caramel, brown sugar. Fruity; dark fruits, raisins. Sweetish chocolate roast malty and fruity throughout. Quite dry. Surely it cannot be a Barley Wine. However, I liked it. Nice Beer (whatever it is)! (2015-05-18)

On tap..

33cl bottle thanks to Federica and aged for 12 months in the Rimini house cellar. It pours a clean copper brown color with a large off white head. It is actually a gusher. Aroma is sweet roasty and tangy all together, with notes of caramel raisins coffee roasted pecans and tangy red berries. Taste is also sweet and tangy with some roasted coffee beans, earthy cocoa, raisins, tangy red berries. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Overall, a sipper, a more similar to a tart porter than a barley wine.

Bottle at home. As "Birra Montegioco Bran", abv 8.8%. Huge explosive gusher upon opening the bottle. Aroma is dark malt, spicy notes, roast, Belgian yeast, coffee, dark chocolate, some caramel, touch of raisins. Flavour is medium sweet with some roasty bitterness in the finish. Body is medium, a bit too heavily carbonated. Overall quite nice, a bit like a meeting of Belgian strong dark ale and Porter.

0,33l bottle at home bought at Astral Beers, Bologna. BB 31.12.2017. dark brown color, small tan head. smells raisins, marzipan, light sherry, light fruity, parfume, some bitter chocolate, licorice. very nice smell. full body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes earthy, dried fruits, light raisins, spices, some sherry, light sweetness. finishes lightly dry with notes of dried fruits and spices. quite good one, i am not a big fan of barley wines, but this one is quite nice and complex.
