Hazy dark amber color with small head. The aroma is strong, woody, a bit sour, fruity and cheesy; later, some moldy notes and very light acetone. Full bodied, smooth, with low carbonation; good malt flavor; at this gravity it still has some residual sugars; the acidity is moderate; more than other Sour beers, this one has a nice fruity presence (apricots and red grapes); low bitterness; balanced final, a bit astringent, and luckily without acetone.
Very good beer.
2008 Version: Geruch sauer-holzig, leicht kirschig

Thanks to Manuele’s generosity at Makke! Pour is burnt caramel in color with a thin large bubbly tan head. Nose is oaky and vinous, sweet berries in the noes with notes of alcohol in back. Taste is a bit less oaky and more red wine characteristics with plenty of berries and dark grapes. Mild malt presence leaning towards the sweet fruity side and a tinge of heat in the finish. Medium body, soft and smooth with an assertive carbonation and crisp finish. maekchu (3847) - Hirakata, JAPAN - JUL 8, 2012
Bottle. Thanks to KyotoLefty. Strong sourish, barrel (wine) aromas. Beautiful deep golden orange color. Big initial hit of sweet&sour, goes to rich sour apples and bitterness in mid palate, and final is smooth and warming. Just a tiny hint of some oxidation. Tart, smooth, and refreshing. The barrel aging really works; it doesn’t overpower the other flavors, but rather complements them well. KyotoLefty (10197) - Kyoto, JAPAN - JUL 6, 2012
2008 bottle from Domus Birrae. Cloudy orange-amber, nice thick lace. Tangy fruit and vinegar nose, citrus, cherry, light carmel. Sweet-and-sour flavor, cherry, caramel, nuts, pepper, spice. Refreshing. Cleanly sour. Peppery, bitter finish. Nice move from sour to bitter. Well balanced and very drinkable. Love it. Koelschtrinker (20216) - Köln (Cologne), GERMANY - JUN 23, 2012
Säuerlicher Beginn, stark an ein Flemish Sour erinnernd. Dann holzig, zunehmend pappiger werdend. Leichte Süße zum Ende, nun leider sehr pappig. Herber Nachgeschmack mit brennender Säure. 10/11/7/9/8/9
