This is one of the best beers - have this in winter and you dont even need it under room temperature, nice ale taste
Literally cooking lager. One third of the bottle went into some toad in the hole batter. Never tried that before. Could be a modern classic. Beer is unremarkable. Slight lemon finish which seems different to the last time I had this. Maybe eventually they’ll tweak this into something decent ljthiessen (1510) - Winnipeg, Manitoba, CANADA - FEB 18, 2017
Bottle, from a friend just back from NZ. Clear copper pour with a large off-white head. Malty and fairly light, caramel, a little nutty, a little bready. Still light and simple, but really not bad. john44 (3456) - SW London, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 7, 2017
Bottle. Dark Brown/Dark Amber in colour. Malty; caramel, burnt sugar, roast malts. Hoppy; hint of grassy hops. Sweetish roast malty throughout. Fairly bland. Easy drinking. (2009-07)

UPDATED: OCT 28, 2017 Updating old records. A gift of Christmas past. An old school amber ale, I always enjoy a peak back into history GraemeL (37) - NEW ZEALAND - NOV 20, 2016
Dark amber. Maybe a little malt on the nose. Light body, very subtle malt, no bitterness. Very middle of the road

330ml bottle. Amber coloured with a small off-white head. Aroma: malts, caramel. Taste: mild malty notes, caramel, light fruity hops. Oily texture. A pretty mild tasting beer, inoffensive though. TedE (1544) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - SEP 10, 2016
Pint on tap at The Whaler, Kaikoura. Ruby red beer with thin white head. Slight aroma of malt and hops. Flat mouthfeel, taste is mostly malt. Finish has a little touch of tinny hops then the sweet sweet malt kicks back in. Standard NZ pub ale, dull but drinkable. Skarecrow (1054) - North Shore, Auckland, NEW ZEALAND - JUL 5, 2016
Poured amber brown with not much head.
Mild bitterness with not a lot of body but a clean finish.
An ok session beer I suppose but nothing crafty at all. tombutlin (370) - Auckland, NEW ZEALAND - JUN 2, 2016
Probably my favourite Monteiths beer. Which is like describing my favourite type of dental surgery. This beer was designed by a committee of teetotallers DylansDad (671) - North Shore, Auckland, NEW ZEALAND - MAY 31, 2016
Not too shabby at all. Clean and crisp, aromas of toast, hay and slight hints of caramel. Taste includes the same plus a drop of apple. Good meat and potatoes ale.
