11.2 oz. bottle, consumed on 4-14-18. “23/09/20,” presumably a best by date. Pours dark brown with a small to moderate amount of very dark tan head. The dark head makes it look interesting. Malty, chocolatey aroma. Scents of malted milk balls, caramel, and toffee. Watermelon, plum, and cherry scents as well; somewhat port-like. Smells very good. Tarry taste. Caramel. Very nice char. Some spice. Lemon and dust. Chocolate bread. Dill in the finish. Good char bitterness. Alcohol noticeable but not problematic in the taste. Bourbon definitely comes through in both booziness and flavor. Very tasty, close to delicious. A little different from a typical American imperial stout. Full body. Smooth in the palate, somewhat oily. Likable and substantial palate effects. Really good and enjoyable across the board. I’m impressed. Tasty, complex, enjoyable, strong across the board, and a little different: I can’t ask for much more. 8.4.8.4.17

Bottle 33 cl. Pours an opaque pitch black with a rough, light brown head. Nose has sweet roast and a hint of Bourbon vanilla. Rich, sweet roastiness. Some discreet wood, slight tartness - but none of the sharp tannins that were prevalent in the brandy barrel version. The Bourbon is not very dominant, suggesting a not so fresh barrel, but forgive me if I'm wrong. Personaly I prefer much more Bourbon character. 120317

Bottle. Dark brown, almost black body with a small, fast disappearing beige head. Aroma is dark, roasted malt, slightly perfumed and mild alcohol. Flavor is sweet, dark, medium roasted malt with distinct Bourbon. Fine body and long lasting aftertaste. Decent but I find it a bit one-dimensional, still a tad better then the Brandy version.

Bottle. Close to jet black in color, oily pour, with just a thin rim of light tan bubbles as a head. Roasted malts, coffee grit, cocoa, booze and some prunes and raisin in the aroma. There seems to be more sweetness in this one than in the Brandy edition, with licorice, roasted malts, some coffee and a pleasant touch of dried fruits in the flavor. The Bourbon is quite subdued. Some bitterness too. It’s full-bodied, warming and smooth on the palate, some carbonation. Lasting roasted, lightly boozy finish with licorice and some coffee grit. A very fine one indeed, and in my opinion slightly better than the Brandy edition. 180210

UPDATED: JAN 28, 2018 Bouteille.

Poured at Shelton Festival, black with small tan head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is roast, dark chocolate, bourbon, wood, vanilla. Medium body, similar flavors to nose, hides alcohol well, very nice.

Draft sample @ Brewdog, Barcelona.
