Dark cola brown, whispy beige head. Cola-esque palate, flavors and aroma of brown sugar, earthy hops, hint of toasted nuts. This is a solid brown ale indeed. Draft at Highland Tavern, Highland, Maryland. Jabah (582) - Bethesda, Maryland, USA - NOV 30, 2017
This is about what a standard brown should be. Minus the coffee/espresso, vanilla, or whatever additions...this represents what the style aims to be. Nice malt to hop ratio while retaining a decent balance. Semi-creamy texture with a nutty flavor. Dark brown appearance. May not be the best one I found up in the DMV area, but will be in the rotation for sure. ganache (6136) - New Jersey, USA - JUL 6, 2017
Bottle. Nose sweet red berry with brown malt, crystal, some mocha. Pour cola and similar to cola when collected, head is super-dense beige and jiggly, as if on tap with nitrogen, lace. Taste surprisingly only lightly sweet and that soon blends in, firm low-medium bitterness with a little (pleasant) acrid smoke, berry, gentle wood, toast, wave after wave of beautiful brown malt undercut slightly by sharp and glassine crystal. Light body is half-flat but not too watery, clean, smooth. Very English on the whole and balanced -- a good one to try, but not one you’ll remember.
