Barrel aged (bottled) version only
This 2007 barrel aged imperial stout is our inaugural vintage release. Permanently ’borrowed’ from the winery after 2 years work aging estate grown chardonnay, the fine oak tannin supports the residual sweetness and adds structure to the malt palate. Moo Brew contains no additives or preservatives and is not pasteurised. Cellar in cool temperatures. Enjoy.

330ml bottle, 2011 edition, 2468 of 2500. Pours a thick, opaque black, with a very small tan head, which nevertheless lasts well and leaves decent lacing. The aroma has notes of butterscotch, Bailey’s and Irish whiskey, as well as some lurking herbal hops. Bitter herbal hops up front lead through a touch of oak to honeyed, raisin and toffee muscat, which gives it a luscious feel. There is some Irish whiskey in a warming finish, and a lingering butterscotch flavour. This is a really superb imperial stout. Its very individual flavours stand out from the crowd of standard stouts, and its warming, luscious feel really elevates it above them.

Aroma has bourbon, vanilla, wood, herbs, roast, chocolate, pralines, soft sweet bourbon notes mix well with their smooth spicy notes. Flavour is a smooth and creamy mix of roast, bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, coffee, bitter, some hints of toffee, salmiak and honey. Aftertaste is bitter, roasty, light dry, ash, wood roast and coal. Low carbo, creamy mouthfeel, close to full bodied. Wonderfull stuf! Very interesting beer! And great label!

Poured an opaque black with a tan collar. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, hints of caramel, hints of dark fruit. Taste sweet of chocolate with hint of coffee. Medium body. Semi-sweet with a trace of roasted grain on the finish.

RafeAU (628) - Los Angeles, California, USA - AUG 11, 2014
2012 vintage. Pours beautiful black with generous tan head. strong coffee and roasted flavours, not much hop noticeable. Nice subtle sweetness, not particularly bitter. This is less rich in alcohol, maltiness and mouthfeel than most imperial stouts but it completely works for it. An absolutely delicious beer to sip and savour with dessert.330 ml bottle at Nant distillery restaurant.

mattyhennessy (377) - Highton, AUSTRALIA - MAY 23, 2014
Tastings of the 2011, 2012 and 2013 editions. 2012 appears the thickest, with 2012 and 2013 seeming slightly lighter. Not as jet black as some imperial stouts. Nose is coffee and cocoa dominated, with some caramel sweetness and a boozy finish, particularly with the 2013 and 2011. Some oakey flavours have also made it into the brew. Delicious

Niksko (635) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - APR 15, 2014
Black with a fine tan head. Nose is toffee, caramel, coffee, raisin, chocolate. Flavor is sweet caramel and candy sugar, coffee, burnt toast, rum and raisin, vanilla. Rich, thick and velvety. Oh boy is this excellent.

On tap at the Tipplers Tap. Dark and rich with strong roasted flavours, smooth and a lingering warming bitter aftertaste. Worth a try.

Bottle shared at Bruce’s pad, big thanks to Josh, 16/01/14. Black with a good sized tan head that retains well. Nose is light roast, hint of booze, dark toffee fudgedom, sweet notes, chocolate. Taste comprises big roasty notes, brown sugars, jammy berry fruit, dark chocolate, dark toffee, oaky BA booze backnotes. Full bodied, fine carbonation, drying finish. Decent enough for the style.
