COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A wheat beer brewed with additions of watermelon, lime and fresh mint at various points. Refreshing as an ice cube down your neck or a permanent gag on the gobs of Slats and Heals during the height of summer, you’ll find some fruit aromas up front before the yeast (more in the spicy, clovey wheat vein than banana-y) takes over. It’s maltily sweet, then wheatily dry before winding up with an almost Mojito-like freshness. Just right for a 40-plus heatwave, in fact.

A well-made weizen with additions so subtle that they’re hard to pick. In other words, this is not at all what I’ve come to expect from Moon Dog, who rarely leave out the kitchen sink when the opportunity presents. It gives a typical over-excitable Moon Dog pour - a head:body ratio of about 3:1. Hazy lemon barley water colour and an enormous whipped egg-white head that takes an eternity to settle. Inviting aroma with the banana-and-clove yeast notes prominent and the lime and watermelon in the background. Very light in the body, which flatters the style. Really summery and refreshing, which makes no sense right now because it’s 4C outside. As with the aroma, there is more banana than watermelon on the tongue. Some clove spice and a squeeze of lime sourness in the finish. Overall, very balanced. Nice summer drinking - this would be so much better than a VB after playing footy. (330ml bottle from Leura Cellars.)

Bottle sample at a tasting at our place. Thanks Tom. Cloudy amber. Sour and green aroma, followed by some candy and then watermelon rind. Sweet, sugary, candy and watermelon candy taste. Light body, fizzy, long and sweet finish.

Bottle sample at a tasting at kerenmk’s place. Thanks Tom L. Clear golden with a bubbly white head. Aroma of graininess, cardboard, a bit of fruitiness. Sweetish flavor with wheat, artificial watermelon. Over-carbonated. Not good.

5.3%ABV. Weizen. Poured out gold. 8ºSRM. Nose has pleasant banana, hint of bubblegum and phenol. Mouthfeel is watery, beery. Palate has unpleasant sour body fading into clean pale malt sweet. No hops. Finish is beery.

Bottle. pours a nice pale/cloudy yellow. Aroma. as the name would suggest, a very strong watermelon aroma. Taste. similar to market description, watermelon, lime and mint. Overall. very cool and refreshing, i can imagine downing a few of these in the hot summer months.

From 330 ml bottle. Pours a clear hay yellow with a frothy but lasting white head and lively carbonation. Aromas of lemon, mint, white wine, pepper and a bit of banana. Taste is bright citrus up front before a weird minty, toothpaste-like note pops out. Lightly crisp finish with a gentle minty aftertaste. Couldn’t detect any watermelon at all. Has potential but rather muddled in the end.

UPDATED: FEB 17, 2015 Bottle from cellarbrations super store in hami hill. Pours a hazy yellow with a thin white head. Aroma is slight banana, clove, watermelon and sherbet. Body is light with medium carbonation. Taste is quite sour with slight mint characters. Has lots of zest and spice to it as well and plenty of clove spiciness. Overall was quite refreshing.

Hard to mark this one - totally out of my comfort zone - jarringly tart sour hit upfront - get the watermelon - distinct vanilla aftertaste - interesting for a change but not my style.
