Bottle. Very deep brown, small dirty off white head. Chocolate, coffee, lick of smoke, wood and grassy hops. Big dark chocolate flavours, coffee and fresh, citrus and grass bitter hops through the mid and back palate. Delicious roastiness throughout whole beer. Slightly over carbonated, but nice beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

330mL bottle. pours pitch black with a massive mocha head, way to much carbonation. Has a light roasted coffee aroma an a delicous treacle coffee flavour. I think the chicory does add another dimension to the flavour.

Dirty black colour with a voluminous coarse mocha head, it wins 2nd prize in the beauty contest won by Graeme Norton. The aroma is of fresh green herbaceous plants and herbal chicory (duh). It subsumes other aromas. The flavour is less offensive with that fresh greenery first and foremost with little of the coffee coming through to compliment or save the day up front. As it sits it gains astringency and then lengthens the chicory. I won’t throw a bucket of brown stuff at this beer because chicory isn’t my thing - I could have elected not to buy this beer after reading the label. It is technically without fault. It is clean, it tastes more of chicory than coffee and it is well brewed.
I didn’t like it, but this is my problem and should in no way put anyone else off from this beer.

Pours a deep black with a huge loose head. Big chicory and coffee notes. Taste is rich chocolate and hickory with a hint of coffee. Another great concept beer from moon dog.

Hit by chocolate, milk, sweetness and small coffee. Get chicory and coffee beans in taste. Bit of dark fruit at end. 330ml. 1.7std drks. 6.4%. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Niksko (627) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - MAR 17, 2015
Pours black with a bubbly light tan head. Nose is maple syrup, caramel, milk chocolate, light roasted coffee. Flavor is real espresso, milk chocolate, caramel, some herby bitterness which I think is the chicory, very slight smokiness. Pretty well balanced and tasty porter. Not too heavy, not too light in body. Another exemplary and interesting beer from Moon Dog.

Black and scary. Little carbonation. Chicory comes through pleasantly. Strong but not overpowering.

330ml bottle from Wine Emporium 131114. Pours a dense black colour and carries a thick crown of tan foam. First impression is coffee. Black cold coffee. Bitter aroma with a flavour that reflects this.

Super dark opaque brown with large tan head. Get some chicory in the aroma along with coffee, sweet malt and earthy yeast. Quite smokey taste with the chicory and coffee, creme brulee, earthiness. Quite light bodied.

Davros (3310) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - OCT 1, 2014
Pours black with a large off-white head.
Nose shows coffee, roasted malt, spicy rye and bready notes.
Flavours more coffee, sweet bready malt and dry roast leading to a bitter, slightly herbal finish.
Carbonation is much too aggressive.
