Pours a very dark brown (nearly black) with a thin, dark head. The aroma is light - some roasted grains and coffee and some malts. The flavor follows the aroma: very little hop aroma, dark grains, some sweet malts with hints of chocolate and toffee, and lots of diacetyl (butterscotchy). The mouthfeel is very thin and light given the beer’s sweet, full-bodied flavor and strength. Overall, a very enjoyable porter. jcwattsrugger (12420) - Florida and, New Jersey, USA - MAY 11, 2007
on tap-pours a light brown head and black color. Aroma is dark malt-roasty/some coffee, faint hops. Taste is dark malt-roasty/some coffee, faint hops. Occasional. Braudog (6716) - Yorktown, Virginia, USA - APR 29, 2007
Draft pint at the brewpub; dark black with a firm and resilient tan foam head. Nice enticing java aroma. Nice coffee flavors, too. Mellows a bit as it goes, but still a quality porter. (#2827, 4/25/2007) stison42 (318) - Blacksburg, Virginia, USA - MAR 19, 2007
Black. No aroma to speak of. Nice clean chocolatey taste with a good medium body. Had at Moon River Brewery in Savannah. MartinT (9880) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 14, 2007
My Bottom Line:

Deep chocolate and roastiness lavish attention on the blackberry fruitiness within. A few love handles to hang on to, chewy malt complexity, and overall drinkability all cooperate to make this a very fine Porter.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam tops the brown-sleeved black gown.
-Supporting hops are felt in the back, agreeing with the friendly roastiness.
-Carbonation’s perfect to let the malts shine and ease quaffability.
-A delicious pint of Porter is always comforting.
On tap at the brewpub.
Draft. Pours a jet black with a thin tan head. The aroma is full of coffee, with a bit of chocolate. The flavor is a great mix of chocolate and a lot of coffee. Just a little bit of hops at the end of the taste. very well put together porter. crizay (1050) - Brook Park, Ohio, USA - DEC 21, 2006
Pours black, tan head. Chocolate, coffee, some oats in there making it very creamy great mouthfeel. Slight burnt harshness from the roasted malts coming through. Taste like northern brewer hops coming through as well which I like. muzzlehatch (4959) - Beloit, Wisconsin, USA - MAY 1, 2006
Draught sample at the brewpub. Very nearly opaque black with rustic mahogany transparency at the glass-side, lasting ring of dark foam....lovely roasty dark grains, bitter chocolate balanced with sweet grainy cocoa, vanilla and a bare hint of brandy in the aroma....body doesn’t hold to the promise of the nose, though it is serviceable, with lots of toasty grain, a bit of chocolate and robust grapy sweetness, but somewhat on the thin side all the way through, really quite weak and watery to finish. Sigh, almost... Papsoe (25063) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - APR 25, 2006
(On tap) Dark mahogany with a reddish glow and a creamy, beige head. Roasted, malty nose. Medium-bodied, lightly sweet, hard roasted malt with a vague edge of chocolate. Almost no bitterness. A soft, pleasant Porter. 010406 kwoeltje (2233) - Manchester, Missouri, USA - MAR 10, 2006
