Draft. A pitch black beer with a brown head. The aroma has notes of butter and roasted malt. The flavor is sweet and buttery with notes of roasted malt and chocolate, leading to a roasted finish. More like a mild than a Schwartzbier. joergen (28394) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - MAR 20, 2011

BF 2011. More or less black in colour (very deep coppery brown) with a mediumsized beigeish brown head. Aroma is nutty, chocolate, roasted malts as well as some toffee. Flavour is the same with some mild spicy notes to it. More complexity as it warms up a wee bit.
UPDATED: MAR 6, 2006 Draught at Toronado, San Francisco. Opaque black, no head. Sweetish and very roasty with clean rounded mouthfeel. Dominated by hop flavours - grapefruit and licorice. The malt character is it’s weak side - it’s very clean and straightforward, leaving it far behind the top examples of the style. Travlr (25250) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - NOV 29, 2010
Tap at Flavor. Black, brown head, great lacing. Aroma of dark bitter chocolate and espresso. Taste is burnt espresso with a smoky edge. Nice. Papsoe (25062) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - APR 6, 2007
(On tap - Toronado) Completely opaque black with a dense and creamy, beige head leaving laces. Lightly burned, licorice-like aroma. Medium body with roasted - lightly burned - malt, again with some licorice. Very bitter finish. Excellent. 250307 madmitch76 (25009) - , Essex, ENGLAND - JUN 23, 2010
23rd April 2010. On tap at the Rake, last of the barrel. Clear brown beer, snall off white head. Sourish wood nose and some cola as well. Palate is smooth and soft but paradoxically gives a crisp carbonated bite. Chocolate and coffee. A bit of sourness and some citrus. Semi dry finish. Love to try this again. Keg at Flavor Bistro. Pours deep brown with a frothy, tan head. The nose holds ashy roast, cocoa. Light sweet flavour, with ample charred malts, baking cocoa, strong roast, scorched earth. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Somewhat harsh and bitter on the finish, with more scorched earthy and ashy-woody dryness. Just OK.
