BiscuitMalt (6) - Nottinghamshire, ENGLAND - OCT 24, 2015 does not count
At the Monk’s Kettle and Toronado I found this example of brewing perfection. If you could get this on a handpull with a sparkler from a well-kept cellar (no offence Toronade, but you ain’t got a Scooby) it would hit a full 5.0 I’m sure. Malt: beautiful, biscuity, caramel malt that hits you with it’s sweetness in that smooth mouthfeel before you start to get the hop aromas so piney and grassey and.. oops, I think I just need to get some Kleenex. Anyway, what a beer. The guy that makes this is a F*&^%ng genius. Wasted on the Americans. I’m not joking, in the Toranado the girl behind the bar warned me it was "warm and flat" because she clearly has no appreciation for cask and when I got it I wanted to slap her. JUst a great beer that offers brilliant complex malt and superb, fresh, prominent US hop flavours with just the right amount of bitterness. No one in the UK makes a cask bitter this good, to my knowledge.

On tap in Santa Rosa. Pours a hazy reddish brown appearance with a big tan head. Toasty caramel malty nose that is awfully floral / soapy. High bitterness. Toasted grain, toffee flavor with lots of potpourri. Too soapy and bitter for my taste.

Pint at Road in the hole. Cask. Ok aroma sweet. Little grass, Little caramel little Apple. Clean reddish Orange color. Good head and lace. Bitter flavor. Lite body thin smooth mouthfeel. Dry bitter finish. It’s ok. Nice lingering bitter finish. Fine bitter.

Very dark red. Sticky head. Definitely to style of a bitter. Aroma is spot on. Really nice. Great sugary caramel malt backbone. Nice aromatic bitterness and cough drop finish

On cask at Toronado San Francisco, pours a clear copper with a small bubbly beige head. Nose is traditionally English, with notes of English malt, some coppery notes, and toasted rye crusty bread. Flavour brings out a mix of English ingredients and American-heavy hopping, with notes of toasted bread, piney hops, and some metallic notes, with a considerable astringency. Extremely drinkable, despite the over-the-top hopping. More abrasive than a traditional bitter, but well-executed.
