Gift from Josephine and Alan after Thanksgiving 2017, drank at home. Pours an opaque dark rich brown with no head. Smells of Sichuanese peppercorn, spicy, toasty and smoky, moderate rich nutty malt, faint burnt butter, cola, slight sweet vegetal notes. Taste is smoky bitterness, more cola, dry roasted pepper. Body is on the thin/watery side, smoky, spicy finish. Interesting! Clear dark brown beer, huge fizzy aery beige head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: lots and lots of Szechuan pepper, bit spicy, soft roast. MF: very lively carbon, medium body. Taste: lots of Szechuan pepper, pretty spicy, roasted, bit sweet. Aftertaste: some caramel, coffee notes, little bitter, lots of black peppercorns, nice stuff!

Taste is Sichuan, big flowers, roses, herbal, mocha, sweet candy, herbal syrup, dark fruits syrup, low chili burn. Really unique profile, massive Sichuan doing all kinds of weird thing. Sampled @ RBBSG 2017. Opaque black color, average to medium sized beige to light brown colored head. Weird herbal, caramel, liquorice and sichuan peppers (according to Tim) in the aroma. Pours dark brown, fizzy, with a large tan head. No much lacing. Aroma is full Sichuan cuisine, very distinctive if you are familiar with it, with strong Sichuan chili and Málà peppercorns. Taste gets dark malts as a base but the Sichuan flavours are strong, the heat and flavour of the chilies and the numbness of the peppercorn are here, very evident. So it gets a pretty vegetable taste, but it’s amazing, with a linger spicy feeling. Some chocolate notes as well, further. Bottle. Thanks Jon! Aroma is naturally peppery and spicy but some plummy fruitiness comes through too. Taste is great, initial pepper burst fading into light caramel and roast with a touch of smoke and chilli there too at the end. Really nice combination. Bit of a cola feel to it too. Like it!
