Clear dark brown colour with a small to average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, chocolate, coffee, ash, light to moderate hoppy. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, dry, roasted, coffee. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

The Hope, Carlshalton. Opaque black brown beer, tidy pale tan head. Palate is smooth and slightly dry with fine carbonation. Smooth dark malts, a little coffee and a little roast. Mild minerals. Nice tangy fruits - subtle red berries and more dominant dark fruits. Semi dry finish with coffee and well behaved hops. Very drinkable.
Cask at the Euston Tap, London during the Second Birthday Party. Pours rich brown with a fine, tan cream head. Dry roasted malts and coffee in the nose. Light to medium sweet flavor, dry, with minerals, rich coffee, dirt, baking cocoa. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Dry finish, lightly sweet with burnt coffee, earth, and more baking cocoa.
