We were so pleased with the 2009 Vintage that we had the insanity to do it all again! As before, barrels were difficult to come by, but Julian took good care of us in the end. The two barrels used for the 2010 Vintage started life as red wine barrels. They were then en-route to a Calvados maker when they were intercepted (the story gets a bit fuzzy, and we know better than to ask questions we dont want to know that answer to). The barrels were even branded with a Calvados marking but never actually saw any. Instead, they were used for several generations of Somerset Cider Brandy. They were emptied literally hours before we filled them. As we prepped the barrels for filling, the aromas of apple, spice, fire, and oak were very intense. We matured this vintage slightly longer than 2009, then blended, krausened, and bottled it much as before. We are very much looking forward to enjoying it by a warm fire again this winter.

In short: A lifeless very sweet dark ale with no personality
How: From a bottle at Mondial de la Bire 2011
The look: Near black body with almost no head
In long: Nose is burnt brown sugar, burnt toasts and sweet pastry. Taste is roast, caramel, table syrup, burnt brown sugar, taffy candy, milky chocolate. Lack of carbonation. A big disappointment. I tried two bottles of Moor and both bottles were totally lacking carbonation, not sure Ill try this brewery again in bottles. A Bitter bottle with a low cask-like carbonation is ok, but beers I tried from Moor needed more carbonation and the lack of carbonation made this beer a boring sweet syrupy dark ale with no personality. Moor, cuisine, Jazz, nuclear the world would be a better place without Fusion.

660ml bottle at home on 19 June 2011. Dark brown, nearly black in colour. Good, lively condition. Appealing woody, slightly vinous aroma. The barrel character - more red wine than brandy if anything - is evident but not, as can sometimes be the case, overwhelming. Quite rich, stout-like palate. Chocolate and coffee underlain by raisiny, slightly boozy fruit. Just a hint of lactic sourness. Beautifully balanced and excellent drinking.

Quite frankly one of the best dark ales Ive ever tried. The depth of flavour is simply stunning and although complex is not crowded on the palate. Roasted malt gives way to liquorice and christmas fruits and finally the rich apply taste of the cider brandy. Delicious!

A deep dark ale with a thin moka head. In aroma, sweet licorice, chocolate, lightly peaty notes. In mouth, a smooth old ale with chocolate, fruity esters, vanilla, quite nice. Bottle at Mondial 2011, June 9, 2011.

Bottle: Poured a deep black color ale with a small light brown foamy head with OK retention. Aroma of black chocolate and caramelized marshmallow is quite unique and interesting. Taste is malt heavy with notes of lightly caramelized marshmallow with some black chocolate and some roasted malt. Body is about average with a light creamy texture with some good carbonation. Interesting beer that doesnt really fit into one style in particular.
