COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask, Special;
What started out as a little bit of fun quickly became the favourite of many die hard ale fans and has become permanent. Probably best described stylistically as a Californian IPA, this beer has all the rich malt and fruit flavours of a Barley Wine combined with the hoppy crispness of a Pale Ale. And as best said by one of its biggest fans, "Hoppiness = Happiness."

UPDATED: FEB 14, 2015 Bottle, 12C. Almost clear pale amber (leaving the cm of sludge at the bottom of the bottle) with a lovely white head that lasts and leaves clumps. Aroma of grapefruit, flowers, peach, honeydew melon, toffee, light bread, a little mint/ eucalyptus. Lightish bodied, very soft mouthfeel despite a fair bit of carbonation. Not really used to having an English beer that seems lighter than it is. Fruity sweet with a little firm toffee and a bit more bread. Citrus flavours - kumquat as well as grapefruit - are distinct and there’s a little pepper. Quite bitter, but the bitterness emerges seamlessly. Excellent. [4.1]

Growler from a keg. Even more vibrant fruit but that softness of the bottle conditioned version is not there and the flavours are a little less well integrated. Still very good indeed. Leaving score as is, but [4.0].

Amargor moderado. El postgusto sigue remitiéndome a queso.

can, bbd may 18; aroma and taste of pine, grapefruit, roses, slight traces of coconut and light caramel; light body, interesting and complex, enjoyable except this unelegant bitter finish.

Can (@The Bottle Shop, Bermondsey): Hazy, deep golden, bigger and stable creamy off-white head; moderate to solid herbal, lemony and piney nose, traces of pale malt well hidden; creamy MF, medium bodied; robust bitter-sweet flavour; lingering dryish piney and lemony finish, hops sticking to the palate. A goody from a very good brewery...

Good looking beer, hazy gold with an appealing foamy head. Does what it says on the tin in that it is very hoppy with a bitter tang. A bit citrus and pineapple in there. Nice beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Orange coloured, very cloudy, medium carbonation, frothy white head. Nose is of pineapple, mango and grass. Taste is similar, but introduces some grapefruit, orange oil, lime. Has a dry bitter grassy aftertaste. Very nice. Price Paid: £2.19 - 330ml can.
