This is one big beer. Forget the ABV, which is just a by-product of the passion. James and Josh from the Queen’s Arms, Corton Denham, and I (hence JJJ) have a shared passion for great beers and were lamenting the lack of true IPAs in the UK. So we decided to brew our own version of heaven. Double IPA was just not good enough - we needed a triple IPA. Triple the gravity, triple the colour, and more than triple the hops. With nearly 700 kg of malt and over 11.5 kg of hops this beer is big in every sense. In fact, it was so big and hoppy that it broke our pump! Deep copper in colour, over the top in aroma and flavour, but somehow still remaining (somewhat) balanced, this beer is not for the faint of heart. And if you don’t like hops, don’t even think about it. But if you do, dare we say this may be the best beer you’ll ever taste. We like it so much that upon racking we decided to make it a permanent part of the range.

Draught @ O’Hara’s Freehouse. Rated on 29.01.2010
Aroma is somewhat sweet with hops, exotic fruits and caramel. Flavour is sweet with American hops, exotic fruits, caramel, some resiny malt and biscuits. Quite American – and too sweet for me.

Orangy hazy appearance with decent full head which recedes over time leavingfluffy rings around the glass. Pleasing spicy citric orange flavour. Good interplay between the malt and hop with a pleasing rubbery bitterness at the end. Approaching the heavy side this still strikes me an intereesting and very English take on the style.

abemorsten (3610) - Mosterøy, NORWAY - NOV 22, 2012
Bottle kindly shared by Sigmund. Pours a hazy opper body with a big bubbled tan colored film. Tropical salty fruits, sprucy pollen and meaty notes on the nose. Herbal, salty, malty and bitter flavors. Full bodied. Brothy texture and a dry tomgue.

gunnar (9085) - Sandnes, NORWAY - NOV 22, 2012
Shared bottle at Sigmunds place. Pours dark brown/ruby, slightly hazed with a small fast diminishing head. Strong + aroma of hops, fruity and piny, moderate sweet marmelade, malts,. Taste is initially sweet malty, before the hops kicks in, dark dried fruits, moderate bitter resiny end, a kick in the front teeth this one.

Shared 660 ml bottle conditioned, from Voldby Købmandsgård. ABV is 9.5%. Pours pinkish-red with a low and short-lived white head. Lovely hoppy aroma, notes of tropical fruits, hints of spruce. Massively hoppy flavour throughout, fruity notes, spruce and pine. Quite a bit of residual sweetness. Bitter of course, but not as extreme as some American double IPAs.

Aroma: Much american hops, floral and resin vibes. Pine soap.
Appearance: A dusky rose hip colored brew, an off-grey head with little lacing, but some curtains.
Taste: Sweet brown bread, toffee, tea, orange marmalade and and bitter peel.
Palate: Little carbonation, watery with a small body, a slightly dry finish.
Overall: This beer wants to be big, but do not really deliver.
Note: Bottle at De Klomp tasting. Reviewed 2012-10-20.

Pours a hazy dark amber color with an off-white head. Smells quite sweet. Lots of toffee, caramel, and tons of pineapple hop aroma. There is some brown sugar and a mild pine note. Sweet citrus, pineapple, and caramel dominate the flavor. Brown sugar, light pine flavor and bitterness on the finish. Not bad, just quite sweet.

Cask conditioned at Minehead Beer Fest ’12. Cloudy brown with white head. There is a surprise at the start of this, fruity sweetness, strawberry juice, I never expected that. Then the alcohol pushes through, strong, stripping allowing the fruity hops to develop. Powerful stuff and very involving, heavy man!
