Bottle, 15C. Black with an inch of tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, roasted malt, prunes, vanilla. Velvety mouthfeel, but quite astringent - goes from very smooth to a little sharp at each sip. Taste has sweet mocha, dried fruits and vanilla. Earthy and tangy. Slight alcohol burn. Bitterness almost pops out at the end with astringent coffee and late-arriving dried orange peel. Deep and interesting, but doesn’t quite mesh as a whole. Might well come together on keeping, but very good now.
Pint Shop, Oxford. Small cream head, dark, very leathery body. Very dark raisin flavors, some bitter roast, bitter cocoa. Very low sweetness, but present. Strong dark beer. Nice to have modern, and English, old ale. Real nice. Raisins. Nice. beerboy278 (4) - Glasgow, SCOTLAND - AUG 17, 2017 does not count
full nose of liquorice, warm nutty and sweet tones, extraordinarily heavy, best not for hedonistic/debauched weekends, however, if you wish to fall asleep on the sofa with your cat, this is the one for you. Beese (2934) - Watford, Hertfordshire, ENGLAND - AUG 11, 2017
Cask at The Great British Beer Festival 2017, Kensington Olympia. Can't believe I haven't rated this before. Loaded with winter spice and sweet malt.
Pełnia kwaśności, słodyczy i goryczki. mikeyo1 (840) - Linköping, SWEDEN - JUL 22, 2017

Somewhat aged 50 cl bottle from Drankencentrale De Moor. Pale beige, creamy, lightly lacing head settling into a moussy rim over a very dark bronze beer, close to blackish in general appearance, but with hazy mahogany-hued, translucent edges. Aroma of toasted walnuts, fondant chocolate, dried blueberries, sweet red wine, toffee, cold tea, toasted bread, old brownies, raisins, dry tree leaves. Dried fruits in the mouth, hints of fig and dried banana slices, restrained sweetishness with a very soft dried berry-ish sourish touch, softish carbonation, smooth and lightly oily mouthfeel. Nutty and toffeeish malt sweet body with toasted bittering edges but softly so, leafy and herbal, almost tea-ish hop bitterish finish with ongoing nutty malts and a dash of sherry-ish, warming alcohol. Very nice example of this old style, among the best I had so far, this is English ale tradition at its best. Jyrsa (871) - - MAY 27, 2017
