Rye adds a distinctive, spicy flavour to beer that is both interesting and enjoyable. Its even better when paired with smoked malt. If youre not used to smoked beer it may come as a bit of a surprise. Dont worry, by the third one youll be hooked and book a ticket to Bamberg. Book an extra one for me please.

33 cl can. BBE 10/2017.
Pours clear amber color with a large head. Nice smoky, malty aroma with tar notes, almost reminds me of Schlenkerla Mrzen which is never a bad thing. Flavor is bitter and malty, not as heavy as the epitome just mentioned, slightly fruitier, subtle caramel. A nice smoky brew nonetheless.

Keg Half Pint at Kings Arms, Bethnal Green, London in March 2014 - Murky Amber Brown in colour. Average head. Good lacing. Malty; grainy spicy rye malts, mild smoke. Fruity; citrus and tropical fruits. Hoppy; piney hops. Starts sweet malty fruity spicy; ends moderately bitter. Interesting beer. Decent. (2014-03-08)

On tap. Colore marrone ambrato, molto opalescente fino a impenetrabile. Ottimo olfatto affumicato di cuoio, prosciutto e torba di legno. Carbonazione media, attiva. Ottimo prodotto.

Sampled from a can from Prohibition Wines. Pours a hazy red/amber with a thin white head. Aromas of peaty smoke. Taste is very smokey with loads of peat smoke like a good Lagavulin.Spicy flavours from the rye, but a little one dimensional. Good mouthfeel and a good, bitter finish. An interesting beer.

Can from Aimees Winehouse, pours red-brown with a tight beige foam, aromas hint to toasted orange, toffee and bonfire ashes. On the palate theres light wood smoke, a touch of cinder toffee and spice, and a dry, slightly resiny bitterness.

Can from Coppers, Newcastle. Hazy orange-amber coloured with a thin white head. It has a gentle smoked beechwood, malty and pine flavour followed by earthy notes and a smooth spicy finish. Very unusual and good.
