Poured from a tall brown bottle into a tulip glass at Cicero’s in the Loop. Opaque dark brown, reddish at the corners when held to the light, with sudsy beige foam and lace. Malty, dark toasty (not roasty), molasses, pie cherries, black liquorice, nutty, cacau nibs. Light body but complex flavour and mouthfeel, the multi-layered aftertaste went on and on. Phenomenal mild ale, authentic style-defining, delicious. I CANNOT WAIT TO DRINK MORE. Godfather50 (272) - SCOTLAND - FEB 26, 2016
Pours darker than ruby with a lovely off white head. Little nose but digging in the mouthfeel is superb. Soft, lively pillow of chocolate feathers fluttering down from a cool breeze of bubbles. The brown malt is lifted perfectly as melted malty marshmallows. There’s no snense that this beer has water in it. Rather it has melted and been bottled before it sets. Nice. harrisoni (19556) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - FEB 1, 2016
Bottle from M&S Stratford and drunk at home. Black deep ruby colour lasting beige head. Bit of buttery malt on the aroma. I love this beer on cask. It’s just not as good in bottle, lacks the mouthfeel. Finish is decent some dark fruits on finish is also good. Nothing offensive. Lacks that wow factor of a cask beer. tekstr1der (507) - New Hampshire, USA - NOV 19, 2015
Nice color to this, pour is slightly more ruby than mahogany. No head or retention to speak of. Aroma is the best part - full of toffee, cocoa, and malt. Very similar to Dark Island on the nose, but even weaker, somewhat watery in flavors that are just too light for my liking. Fairly pleasant malty finish. thegreenrooster (4633) - St.louis, Missouri, USA - OCT 31, 2015
Pour is a near black with a average tan head. Aroma is maris otter malt right off the bat. Very earthy with a decent minor chocolate malt in there. Flavor is not thin at all. Again a nice maris otter with a nice fresh grain and biscuit with hints of chocolate peeking out here and there. This is a pretty flavorful low alcohol beer. An old world beer that puts you in the mood to find a nice pub in the cold and rainy English countryside

Dark brown pour with a ruby hue, thin off white head and light lacing ..... Aroma of chocolate and roasted malts with light notes of dark berry ..... Taste is of dark berries, light bitter hops, chocolate and roasted malts ... Dry abrupt finish with chocolate mostly .... Very sessionable and smooth brew tightslice (1530) - Redwood City, California, USA - SEP 28, 2015
Location: Bottle from World Market in Redwood City, CAredders1974 (1702) - Greater Manchester, ENGLAND - SEP 21, 2015
Appearance: Dark brown cola
Aroma: Roasted malts, coffee, soy sauce, slight smoky beef jerky, briny olives
Taste: Burnt coffee, charcoal
Overall: Would have liked the fullness of the aroma to linger long enough on the palate, turns too ashy too quickly.
Decent considering the low abv would have though it a porter at blind tasting decent chocolate notes and some roastiness. rosenbergh (11957) - Tampere, FINLAND - JUL 4, 2015
500 ml bottle. BBE Apr/16. (K-Citymarket) Tampere, Finland.
Black color with a mid-size foamy light tan head.
Mild chocolatey malty aroma and flavor. Easy. Mild hops.

It’s lower abv lets it down a bit imo. Yeast derived aromas, some leather, olive and brown sugar notes detected with a watery mouth feel. Ok for a mid strength.
