tombyars (1749) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - FEB 13, 2012
First tasted this at the Boswell Hotel, Glasgow in November 1994. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear gold in colour with a bright luminosity and a thick creamy white head. Slight note of sweet pineapple and caramel in the short nose. Thin but creamy mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malts give a strong shortbread biscuit base with pineapple, lychees and mango fruit. Strong hop presence with spicy bitter resins complimenting the malt well. Finish is warming and smooth with golden syrup and tart gooseberry fruit evident, long in the mouth. An excellent session Strong Ale and highly recommended.
