An exceptionally fine balance of malt and hops give this beer a long dry and extremely satisfying finish.

Cask at JDW Charlie Hall; clear amber pour with foamy beige head, fruity aroma, taste has sweet malts and hint of nuts and a bitter finish.

Cask at The Old Black Bull, Preston. Pours clear amber, thick white head. Light malt aromas, light citrus and biscuit. Taste is creamy and smooth, but eminently forgettable. Solid session bitter, nothing more.

NWAF 23 Jan 13. Gylden. Nesten ikke skum. Søt marsipanaroma. Smaken vassen. Kjedelig. Tørr ettersmak.

Nothing special unfortunately - very bland in taste. Drinks easy like lager. Surely, Pendle can show more pride than this!

My Bottom Line:
Oily, soft and malty, this standard Brown Bitter does share some leafy hop notes, but only after sweetish honeyed malts get tangled in minerality.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam tops the misty amber.
-Light burnt sugars appear also in the finish, alongside the leafy bitterness.
-Light oranges show up here and there.
-This remains drinkable; it’s simply a forgettable version of the style.
-This is not nearly as engaging as their Black Cat Mild...

On cask at The Live and Let Live, Cambridge.

Cask @ The Clarendon Leicester. This is what some people would describe as boring brown bitter (bbb). But actually is is quite a nice example even if not exactly earth shattering. Better than say a Doom Bar. Looks exactly how you'd expect a bbb to look. Aroma is slightly Easter biscuity- by which I mean lemon biscuits like my mum made (de-lish they were). Tastes slightly malty but with a slight hoppy citrus bitterness. Slightly twiggy but alreet tha kna's. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Cask (Angleterre, Helsinki)
Soft black tea aroma, sweetened with maybe raisins or cranberries. Simple watery palate. Dullish taste, bit of twigginess. Classic boring English bitter. Quality for those who crave no excitement at all. You could session this without niticing it, certainly. Finish has some light milky grains, but is eminantly forgettable. Maybe some dryness and fustiness. Hint o forest mushroom, maybe. But I’m clutching at spores...

Cask @ O’Connell’s, Tampere.
Last pint of the day, so no proper rating available due to partial memory corruption. Poured an average looking real ale with a foamy head. Can’t remember the aroma, except that it was somewhat fruity and it had some floral notes. Flavour had hops and it wasn’t too malty. That’s all I remember. Overall a clean real ale without off-flavours.

AshtonMcCobb (6871) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - FEB 23, 2013
On cask @ the Haymarket Bar. Pours a light amber colour with a decent head. The nose has a little bit of citrus with some biscuits. The taste has more of the same. The palate is light to medium bodied and fairly fresh. Easy drinking citrus and malt and hard to distinguish.

Rune (13380) - Tromsø, NORWAY - FEB 6, 2013
Gravicask at the National Winter Ales Festival. Bright amber coloured body. Naked at the top. Malt-fruity nose. Dried fruity taste with hints of almond and caramel, rather jam-like. Good bitter finish. Likable (Manchester, 23.01.2013).
