Bottle. Swing-top 500mL. Pretty gold pour. Fluffy white head. Nose is honey, sweet malts, grains, light grass, and some buttery notes. Taste is delicious! This is what I think of when I think of German lagers. Buttery and toasty malts, honey-ish flavors, grains, light grassy hops and light bready notes. Body is medium-full. Above average carbonation. Finishes with more toasty, buttery malts, grains, grassy hops and honey. This is so much more than a typical "pale lager". I really liked this at the last Bon Vivant Beer Lovers Club and had many samples. Really a well done beer, in my humble opinion. canary dog (774) - Rutland, Vermont, USA - JUN 12, 2010
Cold and sharp. Very well balanced as slight grain sweetness is modulated by the fresh hops mild bitterness. A very excellent beer, and perhaps one of the best 3 lagers I’ve ever tried. crossovert (12934) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 6, 2011
A great helles lager, slightly hoppier than most. It is extremely drinkable and is worth the price. wlajwl (6813) - Quad Cities, Iowa, USA - MAY 16, 2011
Aroma is of bread and biscuits while the appearance is rather dark for a helles. Very classic helles/pils, a great beer. unclemattie (4358) - Georgia, USA - NOV 21, 2008

Very good beer! Delicious in fact! Got this bottle from Sam’s in Chicago a couple of weeks ago. Poured with a nice foamy, frothy, white head and a little lace. Bright & clear yellow gold color. Aroma is mildly sweet, malty, a bit of hops, beery. Flavor has a lot more going on. Bigger interplay between sweetness and bitterness. Tasty. Good pale German lager body and carbonation. Clean balanced finish leaves me asking for another swallow. Excellent finish. Session beer. SSSteve (4006) - - SEP 12, 2006
UPDATED: JUL 8, 2007 hazy gold. small white head. clean refreshing aroma. light citrus, spice, and herbal hop flavor. this is actually really good. smooth mouthfeel without the harsh, overly carbonated bite. no cheap tasting syrupy honey flavors. good hops and a smooth mouthfeel in pale lager? what else could you ask for! top notch.
i recently picked up a bottle of this with the "hell" erased from the label and the abv is 5.0%. seems to have a more syrupy corny flavor with less hops and herbal notes as beer i rated above. vinivini (2426) - Gomel, BELARUS - MAR 8, 2014
UPDATED: MAY 16, 2015 Pretty custom bottle. Pale golden colour, fluffy head. Aroma of grain, straw, yeast. Medium body. The taste has a hoppy charakter that would rather be a Pilsner than Helles. At finish & in aftertaste hops dominate as well. Crafty German example. Suttree (6392) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - JUN 5, 2011
So, I met a guy who got this beer at the airbase here in town. There’s a beer store that carries stuff other stores can’t get? Here in town? I’m gonna have start impersonating military in order shop here, I guess. At any rate, this is a well made, clean and crisp German lager. Some grassy notes, some herbal notes. Pretty tasty. Mostly full 500ml swingtop bottle. Opened and resealed several hours ago. Clear golden color. Thin white head. Couple loose bits of lace. Medium body. Crisp, lighter carbonation. Lightly dry in the finish. Pretty satisfying smooth texture, not too hard to drink, unlike the wheat beers. Good doughy bready flavor. Nice satisfying hop to it - lightly spicy hop, light hint of grassiness to it. Perfect amount for the style, I think. Good moderate sweet taste, light bitter. Pretty refreshing, easy drinking. I didn’t finish the dunkelweizen or the hefe, but I actually finished this one relatively quickly, because it was legitimately tasting. This is surprising after how bad the other two were. Very satisfying lager. Much better than expected. Maybe it sitting around and breathing a little did well for this?
