Bottle. Strong molasses and sour apple aroma. Medium brown with moderate head. Sour wheat, dark malt, and molasses flavor. Actually tasted more like a dunkelbier to me - nice but minimal fruity esters. Juelze (1146) - Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA - JUL 30, 2007
Pours a rich brown color with thick frothy color that fades quickly. Aroma is of slight molasses, clove and banana. A slight herbal qulity also makes it thru the taste and aroma. Taste is of light malt, clove and banana. Palate is a bit astringent. Meh. Aurelius (5294) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - JUL 19, 2007
Distinct molasses and yeasty aroma, fading into that bittersweet/musky dunkelweiss thing. Colored like rootbeer candy - greybrown, with a frothy head. Good swingtop bottle. Malty, wheaty, molasses notes. Not very bitter, a bit herbal - horehound/Riccola flavors, moderately sweet. Medium to medium-light body. Overall fair, but not worth swerving into oncoming traffic to pick up off the road. PhillyBeer2112 (2819) - Oviedo, Florida, USA - JUL 16, 2007
Bottle as Schwarz weiss. Poured like cola, a pale brownish color and a smallish foamy head, heavy big bubbled carbonation in the glass. Aroma lightly astringent, herbal, just a touch of clove. Flavor is wheaty with some banana. Fizzy. Unimpressive. aracauna (3589) - Georgia, USA - JUL 10, 2007
Whereas the regular weissbier was mellow and pleasant, there’s a distinct sourness that isn’t pleasant. Maybe a little sulfuric. It’s one of those things that will get easier to drink as you go, but I’d not recommend this one at all.

Rated 2/3/07: Interesting beer, nothing grand regarding a dunkel weizen. Acidic aroma slightly sour, a touch of wheat and some mild fruitiness. Real light brown pour, huge fizzy head that settles, not much lacing to speak of. Mouthfeel is light, finish is weak. Flavor is very similar to their Hefeweizen, sour fruit and applesauce. I enjoyed the regular hefe much more than this. Tmoney99 (14368) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAY 20, 2007
Hingtop bottle at Rathskeller. Poured a hazy brown color with a large off-white fizzy head that was mostly lasting and produced fair lacing. Good banana and toasted malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Good sweet toast flavor with an average sweet finish of moderate duration. Soft drinkable brew. yayforbeer (753) - Orange Park, Florida, USA - MAY 7, 2007
500ml swingtop bottle. Aroma of musty yeast, sour dark malt. Fizzy off-white head that settles down to a skim with a bit of lacing. Flavor is watery and lively with carbonation, but shows some dark wheat malt, a bit of lemon and spice. Malt flavor is reminiscent of Newcastle brown ale. Light and refreshing but lacking in some areas. Flavor is good but much too light. I’m a fan of the style, but I was left wanting more. Seemed like what you might get if you mixed a good dunkleweizen, Newcastle, and Coors Light. Not really what I was looking for, but still decent enough. maniac (3800) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - APR 26, 2007
Swingtop bottle labelled Schwarze Weisse. Clear brown body with a large frothy tan head. Sweet banana and spice aroma. Light banana flavor, somewhat nutty with a bit of yeastiness. Body is a bit too thin for my liking however. nick76 (4399) - Tampa, Florida, USA - APR 9, 2007
The aroma is near spot on for a Dunkelweizen with coriander, bananas, sour wheat malt, and yeast. The appearance is medium red/brown with a good three finger head that didn’t last long enough. The flavor is like the aroma with a strong sour note up front. This is really the only bad thing about it but sadly it really hurts it. The palate is somewhat thin. Overall I am a little disappointed by this one.
