Cask at Square Peg, Birmingham. Not too bad this one. Christmas spices - you know the drill (cloves, cinnamon etc). Quite sweet and smooth. Maybe like a toffee eclair. Didn’t sample very many Xmas ales this year, so this was fine by me.

23rd Dec 2014: hand-pulled cask pint in my local Wetherspoons. Poured a good looking deep mahogany red/brown, with a thin but lasting beige head. The nose and taste were all about semi-sweet maltiness with a toffee apple and darker fruits feel to the flavours, nice winter brew

UPDATED: DEC 22, 2014 Nice one. Aroma caramel. Appearance mahogany. Taste okay but a little bland on palate compared to others. Revised opinion. Taste grows on you. Deceptively strong. Good kick on the palate.

Tasted this in the Last Post, Paisley (JDW) on 11th December 2014. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear dark mahogany in colour with a thin buff head. Good malty aroma with a touch of Caramac in there. Thin mouthfeel and good lacing. Mixed malts give robust maltloaf with date fruit and slight highland toffee notes. A light hop prickle gives a dry earthy flavour to the hop resins in the short aftertaste. Finish is malty with slight roast grain and syrupy prunes present in the mouth. Tastes more like an Old Ale in style than an ESB. Highly recommended.

Cask at the Michael Balcon, deep dark red with a lasting thin off-white head, aromas of faintly tart wine and fruitcake. lusciously fruity-malty and heavy bodied, light bitterness and faint plums in the finish. Very nice.

Cask at the Old Manor (JDW), Bracknell. Reddish chestnut with a loose cream head; aroma of orchard fruit with a hint of spice; sweet malty taste with some ripe pear fruit; and a light fresh bitterness before a dry biscuity finish. Satisfying.

Cask by hand-pump at Hengler’s Circus, Glasgow - clear deep reddish brown, thin beige head, sweet malty, aromatic aroma, minimal lacing, sweet, toffee, fruitcake flavour, oily feel, well balanced, good level of carbonation

Draught. I had this on cask in Tynemouth outside Newcastle. It may be the best beer name ever. Sadly the brew was just ok.
