Light amber colour, malty aroma with hint of whisky. Malty and bitter to taste, not unpleasant but plenty of carbonation - too much for my palate. Nothing special. robinvboyer (4677) - Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 23, 2013
Amber pour, small beige head. Sweat malty aroma, subtle cherry, and dark fruits. Light hoppimg, touches of wood abd oak. Not bad, but not great, a tad too sweet. otakuden (1783) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - NOV 22, 2013
Clear amber with glints of garnet deep in its depths. A voluminous khaki head slowly fades in the shape of a donut. Lace sticks in bunches on the sides of the glass. Swirls clumpy.

Toffee followed by plums, pears, and concord grapes. Oak in the back with vanilla and essence of raw oak. Slightly buttery on top. Cut green grass. Crisp Fall leaves. Intriguing and off-putting at the same time.
My first quaff reveals a hard bite of burnt wood and pepper in the front. A dry finish of apple cores, plum and grape skins. Rough. Burnt acrid caramel and Werthers Original. Hard minerals along the edges.
There was just something wrong with this beer from Greene King. I’ve had many an Old Speckled Hen which, while nothing spectacular, is a solid English Ale. Maybe the clear bottle allowed some skunking, or maybe it was supposed to taste this way. All I know is I didn’t finish mine.
Poured from a bottle this is a clear amber ale with a slight head. The aroma is slight citrus scent. The taste tells more with a strong flavor of raisins that lingers bitter on the palate Iphonephan (6989) - Jackson Hole/McLean, Virginia, USA - NOV 19, 2013
From a 5 cl bottle shared in Avon NC. Pours a clear amber with an off white head. Malty nose. Flavors of light butterscotch and raisins. Medium mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Slightly sweet, slightly bitter finish.

Bottle - Caramel and a bit of burnt sweetness. Clear amber with a beige head. Sweet caramel, oaky and a bit sour. Bitterness up front and a bit harsh. Overall not my favorite of the series. A bit rough around the edges. Imaena (2327) - Maputo, MOZAMBIQUE - NOV 10, 2013
Bottle. This is nice big ale which bridges complexity and balance very well. leebotton (406) - Bristol, Somerset, ENGLAND - NOV 10, 2013
Slight;y malty, sweet aroma, subtle. Nice deep red / amber colour with standard minimal white head. Some good malty flavours going on, beats it’s little sibling and the flavour does linger some medium to deep complexity but no discernible oak vats from what I can get. Satisfying small bubbly mouthfeel. Good for a mass produced, pasteurised beer. geologyguy (1604) - Columbia, South Carolina, USA - NOV 8, 2013
Smell is like a sour beer..taste is a bit sweet and malty, no decernable hops per se but a tad bitter on the finish Spab (3850) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 8, 2013
500 ml bottle from LCBO (part of Hen House mix pack). Pours a clear dark amber colour with modest-sized eggshell-coloured head. Aroma is toffee, dark fruit and butter. Flavour is toffee, raisin, wood and butter. A little bit of booziness and a lightly drying finish. Ok.
