UPDATED: MAY 28, 2012 Nice dark red appearance. Aroma of caramel and toasted oak. Flavour is toffee, malt and raisins. Some hop flavours to balance it out. Medium-full body. Very enjoyable beer.

Bottle and served in no-nik pint glass: Pours a nice deep amber hue with a creamy slightly off-white head and left good lace upon the glass. The aroma has notes of herbal and grassy noble hops(I think some EKG is in there) along with mild, crystal and slight toasted malts. Ever so slight oxidization and oaky notes along the vapours. The taste is very well balanced with a nod of bitterness to offset the sweet malt. Well rounded wood and earthiness lingers upon the palate with a dash of spice, pipe tobacco and butterscotch notes. The addition of the olde ale really adds a layer of complexity to this brew. The mouth feel is actually heavy for the genre, smooth and creamy with a quick dry tannic finish. I really liked this, above expectations and lucky that the clear bottle (damn it anyway) did not bring about any skunky character. Colour this fan of Olde Suffolk impressed! (methinks this would rock on cask!!)

Poured from a bottle that is almost a year out of date. Dark copper with a small light-brown head. Aroma is caramel, nuts, alcohol. Flavour is the same followed by a bitter aftertaste. This is a good beer.

Aroma: Nutty English malts prevail with a light toffee sweetness and a jigger of raisin liqueur. Appearance: Rich, amber/coppery color with pleasant natural carbonation; firm tan head settles into a mostly present, bubbly skin. Flavor: Nutty up front with a surprising oak touch entirely missing from the nose (my nose, at least); sweetish toffee and raisin finish things out. Palate: Medium body, slightly creamy texture, average carbonation, lingering finish. Overall: Liked this more than I thought I might (didn’t expect much from the clear glass bottle, and wasn’t a big fan of Old Speckled Hen). A lovely complement to my Labor Day brunch.

UPDATED: OCT 30, 2014 Reddish to brown colour, well lacing head. Smells of caramel, wood, grass, herbs. Medium to full body. Well balanced bittersweet taste. Hoppy ending without exaggerated bitterness. Good & emotional.

Aromat dość słaby, karmelowy, lekko ziołowy. Barwa_ miedziana, klarowne. Piana początkowo dość gęsta, szybko rozpadająca się. W smaku mocno dominuje karmel, lekkie zioła i alkohol. Goryczka średnia. Odczucie rozgrzewające, wysycenie średnie. Ogólnie na pewno warte spróbowania i myślę że z przyjemnością wróciłbym do niego w inny chłodny wieczór.

Amber with a beige head. Moderate carbonation and body.
Aroma: grainy malt with a little wood, oxidation, and brett character..
Smooth and decent, but lacking refined integration of flavor components.
