Old Golden Hen captures a celestial ray of sunshine in the form of a rare and very special Tasmanian hop called Galaxy. The result is a triumph for its sheer powers of refreshment. Malty sweetness, a hint of tropical fruit and a clean finish: out of this world.

Aroma: Tropical notes of grapefruit & mango.
Taste: Tropical fruits & malt sweetness with a crisp finish.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 2/9/2016. Pours fairly crystal clear deep golden yellow color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and rocky white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of lemon, orange zest, pear, pineapple, mango, apricot, honey, cracker, biscuit, herbal, floral, grass, pepper, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of earthy hops, fruity yeast, and moderate bready malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big lemon, orange zest, pear, pineapple, mango, apricot, honey, cracker, biscuit, herbal, floral, pepper, and yeast earthiness. Moderate herbal/spicy/citrus peel bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, orange peel/rind, pear, pineapple, mango, apricot, honey, cracker, biscuit, herbal, floral, grass, pepper, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of earthy hops, fruity yeast, and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from bitterness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, grainy/sticky, and lightly resinous balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.1%. Overall this is an excellent English bitter! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of earthy hops, fruity yeast, and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth and refreshing to drink. Very flavorful for the low ABV; and extremely well balanced between hops, yeast, and malt flavors. A very enjoyable offering.

23/10/16 bottle at home. I shouldn't like this but I kinda do. Mass-produced golden ale. Can't even get the malt level right. But goes down a treat when thirsty ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

355mL bottle into a shaker glass. Super clean gold body, white head that didn’t last, but did lace. Malty nose but not much else. Did I read that there were Galaxy hops (can’t smell ’em) and they were "rare"? (not in this neck of the woods they aren’t!). Body is medium to light. Malty honey on the palate, mild dry bitterness to finish. Not what I expected from the label, but as a mid strength beer - it is drinkable.

Drank from a pint glass, poured from a twelve ounce bottle. Nice golden color, packed with malty flavors, but super smooth....Probably my favorite golden ale too date!

Amarelo ouro quase translúcida. Esouma branca de média formação e persistência. No aroma malte evidente, mel. Paladar de médio dulçor, leve amargor. Corpo leve e média carbonatação. Tende a aparecer mais o amargor com o tempo, mantendo o mel, mas corpo muito leve. Razoável.

Piwo klarowne w kolorze ciemny zloty z obfita biala grubopecherzykowa piana. W aromacie niezbyt intensywnie, troche miodu, trawa cytrynowa i kwiaty. Gdzies na koncu lekkie cytrusy. W smaku owoce egzotycne, karmel i slody. Wysycenie i goryczka na srednim poziomie. Nie ma fajerwerkow ale lekko schlodzone dobrze wchodzi.

355mL bottle from Dan Murphys. Clean deep gold body, sudsy sort of head. 3 Pleasent sort of malty nose - pale caramel, toast, honey, slight floral (hop) character. 6 Medium-light body, carbonation probably a touch high for style, touch watery on the finish. 2 More of the toasty, honey sort of malt on the body, moderate bitterness, finish is dry, lingering minerality. 6 Doesn’t do what it says on the packet (Galaxy hops!?), but it is past its Best Before - not particularly exciting. 11 2.8

Served in a tulip from a 500ml bottle. Pours clear golden colour with a thick off-white head, decent lacing in the glass. Aroma is toffee, tropical fruits, grass and a hint of lemon. Taste is very crisp and refreshing combination of mango, caramel, lemon zest with a crisp clear finish. Medium body with medium carbonation. Extremely nice and refreshing brew!
