Old Golden Hen captures a celestial ray of sunshine in the form of a rare and very special Tasmanian hop called Galaxy. The result is a triumph for its sheer powers of refreshment. Malty sweetness, a hint of tropical fruit and a clean finish: out of this world.

Aroma: Tropical notes of grapefruit & mango.
Taste: Tropical fruits & malt sweetness with a crisp finish.

Citrus in aroma, a bit spicy
Very citric flavour like grapefruit
Lemon peel

As it boasts it’s a very refreshing beer. Very citric.

Poured a crystal clear golden amber with a one-finger bright white foamy head that retained OK and laced OK. Carbonation moderate and fine to medium. Aroma of malt with a hint of spice and lacking in tropicals. Taste of pale malt, spice and grain with a tarty bitterness and again no real tropical flavours. Light body. Smooth and crisp while cold with a short lived slight bitterness on the finish.

Bottle. From Morrison’s.

I really don’t get much Galaxy in here at all. A tad pineapple but not much. Mainly ruined by too much crystal, light-struck and torrified wheat. A dull session golden ale. Not exciting.

Bottle from Waitrose. Golden, well-carbonated, with small white head. Pleasant floral and grassy aroma. Taste has some bitterness with a honeyed sweet undertone and a note of stale bread. Heavy carbonated mouthfeel. Ok, but nothing too special.
