COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The biggest and boldest of all stout beers, Mornington Imperial Stout presents deep espresso in colour with a thick, tan head. Enticing aromas of coffee and dark chocolate lead into a complex moreish palate. Licorice, cocoa, and dark fruit flavours are underpinned by a roasted malt finish. Lightly carbonated to allow the flavours to shine, this is a stout to savour.

330ml bottle pours almost black with slow forming tan head. Subtle aromas of dark chocolate, espresso and cream. Beautifully balanced flavours of espresso, cocoa, brown sugar, aniseed, roasted malt and cream liqueur. Very refined and layered Russian imperial stout. Long pleasant finish with equal measures of bitterness and sweetness. Better than many more expensive examples.

Multiple 330 ml bottles from Hawthorne Cellars. Pours black with medium tan head. Medium aroma of toasted malt, chocolate, and mild coffee. Flavours are robust and shine through as the beer warms. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Among the very best Australian takes on the Russian Imperial style and good enough to hold its head up in international company. Carries its 9.5% abv with ease. If it has a flaw, perhaps it is that it pulls up a little abruptly. Certainly an excellent introduction to the style for anyone coming at it fresh. Barely a hiss when the cap came off, but the short head produced by the pour proved as immovable as a North Korean leader. Soft, milky aroma - Milo, blackcurrants, sticky date pudding, faint ginger. On the tongue, its a beautiful balance of sugary esters, vanilla bean, allspice, dark chocolate and coffee grounds. Creamy palate. A classy production. (330ml bottle from Leura Cellars.)

Black pour with a thin tan head which disappeared completely pretty quickly. Roasty, coffee and liquorice aromas at first. Needs to warm up a bit. Initial taste is coffee, roast, chocolate, liquorice note that cuts through everything else. As it warms up theres more subtle aromas and flavours that come through - some vanilla, a bit more of the bitter cocoa. Really is pretty damn good.

At cellar temperature and into a snifter. Inky black and still with very little head retention going up and then down with haste. Aroma has a pronounced twitch of Vegemite and peppered Biltong atop hints of cocoa, bitter dark chocolate, stewed plums, ethanol and earth. A complete 360 on the palate. It is spicy with a lot of heat from the alcohol. Earthy, musty and gritty with a raw, weedy bitterness that actually sits well. Good yeast character. Slightly vinous with a touch of dark, sour berries levels out a milk chocolate sweetness that tantalises the tip of the tongue. Body is relatively lean with a mild spritz of carbonation, but then it is smooth to oily past the mid-palate. One to grab a few more of and lay them down for a few years. A great drinking, unique Imperial Stout! (33cL, no date stamp, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)

Solid beer from solid brewery. Big, boozy and tasty. Hits the spot on a winters night too - tobacco, dried fruit, strong bitter finish.

2014 and 2015 versions. Dark brown, bit of beige foam. Luscious dark fruits. Some liquorice and fig fruits. Taste is full on, smooth but very very flavourful. Its not even barrel aged, truly a treat Roast and smooth. Long bitter and dry linger in the finish.

Now this is what Im talking about. A rich, smooth slick of malty goodness that carries the high ABV very well. A cracking winter warmer and excellent value for money.

2014 and 2015 bottles shared. Thanks Jonno! Huge fudge chocolate nose with lots of dark fruit, cherry, marshmallow cream, roasted cacao nibs and coffee. Super complex nose. Wow its like drinking chocolate syrup really. Some toasted coconut and light vanilla cream with more fudge. Decadent for sure. Really nice imperial stout from Oz. Awesome.

On tap at The Local Taphouse, Sydney on 16th September 2015. Thickly black with terra cotta declining foam and full lacing. Rich and intense roasty, aniseedy, cherry fruit aroma. Intensely roasty in-mouth with burnt coffee, a vanilla touch and Bourneville chocolate. Lingering coffee-flavoured roasty finish. Full-bodied with a smooth, yet engaging texture.
