The Kriek Mort Subite is brewed according to the ancestral lambic recipe. This original Belgian beer ferments spontaneously. Enriched with cherries, it matures soft and slowly in oaken casks. To be served cool.

VinegarStroke (441) - Napa, California, USA - FEB 23, 2017
Bottle: pink, brown with slightly toffee color, with light head and lace. Clean, cherry, slightly malty and there’s a confectionary note. Some toasty or aromas. The palate is off dry, slightly dank with soaked cherry flavors. Fresh acidity. Soft. Clean, simple, pleasant Kriek.

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 23F). Bottle 25 cl - Batch B606900S2 (BBF 05-09-17). AROMA: mild sour aroma, dominated by a medium sweet artificial cherry-like presence. no wild fermentation notes. APPEARANCE: red color and clear. medium pink moussy head with good retention. TASTE: medium cherry-like flavor with an artificial character. low sourness. medium sweetness with a semi-sweet finish. PALATE: light body with medium-low carbonation. very low tartaric presence. OVERALL: a fruit lambic with a balance towards sweetness and with an artificial cherry character.

Bottle. Sweet, refreshing, crisp, cherries (and, apparently, elderberries) fruity taste. Slightly sherbety-fizz. Bit thin. Easy drinking. (2008)

0.375 l bottle from ’Belgiuminabox.com’ as ’Mort Subite Original Kriek’, best before December 2011 (!), got this yesterday. Bottle opens with a very light plop. Slightly hazy, dark reddish brown with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, white head. Still quite fruity, sweetish, a bit sourish aroma of cherries, almond and some raspberries. Rather sweet, very fruity, and minimally sourish taste of cherries, raspberries, almond and dextrose, followed by a short, just slightly tart finish. Medium body, smooth and slightly effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Held up quite well, still enough carbonation, interesting to try, too sweet though.

Bottle at home. Aroma is slightly tartish and quite sweet cherries, bit artificial, sugary, cherry candy. Flavour is sugary sweet with some tartness and a little sourness. Body is light. Drinkable, but way too sugary and artificial for my taste.

T: malt, sweet cherries, hint of wood, lemon, candy, medium body, normal carbonation, comparable to real lambic not good but as a fruit beer so so, 37,5cl bottle from Prik&Tik/Quali-drinks/ in Brussels.

best before date is 01/2015 yet it displays no signs of oxydation or associated off-flavors. ours ruby red with a thin that dissipates but not completely. a bit cloudy. leaves a nice lace as its consumed. as expected the sour cherries dominate the aroma. some barnyardy, earthy notes are noticeable and a bit of bubble gum. it has medium body with a semi creamy texture. a tart but nor overwhelmingly so astringency is there. the flavor is all sour cherry with no noticeable bitterness. well balanced tartness that lasts well into the finish which is mostly dry. I taste nothing from the oak but probably just used to provide the wild yeasts. no hop character present in the nose or palate as to style. pleasant and easy drinking fruit lambic.

Bottle from Steins Deli. Pours a murky reddish brown color with a small white blanket. Clawingly sweet aspartame fake cherry flavor very medicinal. Medium mouthfeel.
